Masterpiece Downton Abbey Season 1-4 DVD

This review is not about the show. It's a given you love it or believe you will by shopping various versions of the show. First, no matter what box set you choose, if you own Blu-ray, then you must buy a BR set. The scenes and quality to detail are absolutely stunning in and outside Downton. This set pictured was originally released in 2014. At the time of this writing the set is now 8 years old. Using 'multi-format' will get you the pictured BR set in R1. It runs about $ 8-20 at this time from many vendors. I am generally not a fan of marketplace vendors but Blu-ray have yet to be successfully copied for high volume sales for a 'cheap' cost (ie: no knockoffs here). It is a pain to only get Seasons 1-4 and still need Seasons 5 and 6. They can be found very reasonable as well in good/very good condition. Excellent base set to see if this show is for you or to own for your collection. Better to toss a few bucks away than $ 80-120 for the full, prettier box sets. As you see, the set has two boxes that house the discs. Mine came in excellent condition. The boxes are the flip-style pages for 5 and 6 discs as opposed to the stack style many use now including Acorn. This show is notably one of the ones most highly shopped for trying to find 'the right one'. I did this and drove myself crazy. They are all the same. BBC/PBS version are the same. BBC simply means they had ads when it aired initially since their shows are aired over public TV. Good luck! No matter where you buy or from who, this is one of the BEST series ever made. You must be patient, learn the characters, a unique setting and be open to how life was across the pond early 20th century (3-4 episodes). It's well worth it!

I love this series. I'm grateful I purchased it. I bought a used in excellent condition.

Many additional scenes that were cut from my other DVD's (accidentally donated and replaced with this item). The case could be better quality, the discs do not stay in place.

I ordered this, and it arrived looking nothing like this. It came in a cheap plastic container with a black and white cover that ripped upon opening the package. Several of the discs skipped or stalled or stopped. I ordered another set from another seller, and it turned out to be the same set. So I watched every episode quickly to take out the bad ones from each set and keep the good ones. I hope I got it straight and have a good set now, but I was concerned I'd have to order a third set to get one full set with no bad d.v.d.s in the mix. I do love having the complete set, but it would have been bad if I'd watched it leisurely and found a bad d.v.d. in the batch two months down the road. So be prepared to watch every d.v.d.--some once or twice (or more) if you have to order another set--within 30 days to be sure you have good discs to keep in the collection.I would prefer a better container as it's difficult to get the d.v.d.s out without breaking them and the whole container fell apart when trying to get the discs out. I could re-close it, but the plastic "pages" aren't attached where they should be anymore. Perhaps I'll come up with another way to store them.I also would have preferred one complete set with no glitches, but once you piece together a full set, you'll enjoy the content. It's a good glimpse into the past as great pains were taken to make this series as historically accurate as possible.

Love the series. Took me a week to watch them all, but it was worth it. Enjoyed every minute.

My spouse and I enjoy Downton Abbey very much. We wanted to share the series with my parents who are living in an assisted living environment. We plugged the first season disk into the DVD player and I immediately realized that we were not watching episode one. I double checked to make sure we hadn't skipped ahead accidentally and was dismayed to find that episodes one and two were not even on the disk. It started with episode 3! We are like several other people who purchased this product and didn't watch it immediately and are now outside of the return/refund window. I am bitterly disappointed and don't know what other problems to expect in the remaining disks. My advice to potential purchasers of this product: DON'T!******UPDATE: Season 1, Episodes 1 and 2 were found! I was scrutinizing the set over more closely and discovered that a disk was hidden behind the inside cover flap of the protective plastic case. It was certainly a strange place to put it because it was not obvious... but there it was! In all of my experience in buying DVD's over the past few decades, I've never seen a disk concealed the way this one was. I've upgraded my rating to 4 STARS and will give it a full 5 STARS if the entire series plays without problem.

Great DVD collection of downton abbey!I only gave it 4 marks because I bought this for my elderly mum as a 2016 xmas present but the last xmas episode of 2015 isn't in this set so its a slightly incomplete set and as its been finished for over a year I expected the last episode to be included but it can be purchased separately!Otherwise its a lovely set with all of the series and all of the xmas episodes except the last one, but I would buy it again.Tried to clarify without opening the celephane wrapping whether the last xmas episode was in there with amazon but they let me down saying that they would look into it and get back to me but nobody ever did!

A must see for people who like drama taking place in the prewar period of the 20th century and continuing after the Great War (WW 1), following the lives of the family and their servants, and how things change over the decades.Great performances by all the cast members. Love the series

This set went way beyond my expectations, the quality of the set is outstanding and you get some unexpected goodies inside which was a lovely surprise. It's packed with bonus discs containing extras which will delight hardcore fans. I can't recommend this set highly enough, you won't be disappointed, it's worth every penny.

Lovely boxed set with loads of extras. Would have liked to have seen a fuller section on the cars used for Downton but otherwise excellent. This set should be standard issue for helping to understand period history in schools, such is the detail!

Have seen downtown abbey when on tv once a week, now I can binge watch it again and again.
