This card reader works perfectly; not gripes at all about its ability to read a smart card; I knocked it down a star for the lack of bells and whistles (considering the price) and because of a minor cosmetic difference from the advertised picture.Pros:- It reads a Military Common Access Card (CAC) perfectly- The dark gray standing reader is a cool design compared to similar vanilla card readers- The yellow smart card contact pad design on the reader turns red when the reader is plugged inCons:- The price is high compared to similar card readers- The red light does not blink when the smart card is being read like similar card readers (to include the SGT122)- The Windows logo shown in the picture is actually replaced with the “Stanley Global Technologies” written logo on the actual product- The weight of the card reader is not as heavy as expected, making the device a little wobbly when putting in or taking out the smart card

This reader works perfectly out of the box on Windows 7, you just have to download and install the DoD root certificates. My only gripe is when I went to cut open the package. It comes in a blister pack with the reader at the bottom and cardboard covered in plastic at the top. I went to cut it open like all other blister packs but it wouldn't cut. Once I finally brute forced it, I learned that there is a driver CD hidden between the cardboard in the top of the blister pack. Luckily Windows 7 doesn't need it, but if you have an older OS, be careful when opening.

My husband had been searching for a CAC card reader for quite a while so he could access some of his military stuff from home. I found this on Amazon and bought it for him. It showed up on our doorstep a few days later and my husband couldn't wait to use it. He had to install some things onto the computer before he could use it, but I'm not sure what. He said it's a good CAC card reader and he's very greatful that I found it.I can only give 4 stars because I have no idea what he had to instal to get it to work.

I found this CAC reader easy to use. The device drivers installed automatically, & it worked immediately without me having to jump through a bunch of hoops to get it to work. I'm not too tech-savvy, so the fact that I plugged it in & it worked right away was a huge plus. I would recommend the brand especially, as I bought a second CAC reader from the same brand that was equally user-friendly & simple.The only downside to this product is its design. It's not exactly a flaw, but I personally am a laptop user, & this particular version is designed for use with a desktop; it doesn't do well with portability since it's designed to sit stationary. However, it is small enough & not terribly cumbersome, so even on the go it was still a worthwhile investment.

I bought this in October 2014, and it worked perfectly for several months. Then, it stopped working for some unknown reason. I contacted the manufacturer directly to see if there was anyway I could fix the problem. They said there was nothing I could do, but they sent me a new one free of charge without me even suggesting I wanted them to do this, and I didn't even buy it directly from them. Needless to say, I was very impressed with their response. It has worked fine ever since. I was disappointed that the first model stopped working, but the manufacturer's response to my question more than made up for my complaints. I would buy this product again and recommend it to others.

The CAC Reader I had before was old and out of date. So I upgraded to this one because my new ID could not be read with the old reader. However, it worked no better then my old Reader. I had the same problem with the old reader. I learned about it later that I only need to update the software and after the update, both worked the same. I could have bought an old model for cheap and it still work like this one. It's also alot bigger and heavier than the old model, but no special benefits for its inconvenience. I used window xp and 7 from the old model reader and it's just as good.

I purchased the SGT117XE for testing custom software. The product installed without hassle. The reader also performed as expected.The SGT117XE is one of the better card readers I tested. It has a sturdy base and does not suffer from the lightweight "plastic-y" feel of some of the other readers I tested.

Hello Amazon Friends, I purchased this product because my husband is currently in the armed forces. This is a great product for accessing your account using your CAC cards certificate's. The product was very durable and looked very professional on my desk at home. Its also small and versatile so you can carry it with you in any backpack or laptop case. The downloads for the driver where super easy and the instructions to setup to use in minutes was great!!
