Considering the Wind Energy field? Find it in here!
I will first disclaim that I have received instruction from Dr. Hemami. Ahmad is very brilliant and many students are challenged by his instruction, but if a student approaches their studies with a degree of seriousness and reaching a laudable goal, they will likely come to appreciate him as I do. Frankly, any Wind Energy program for that matter would be fortunate to have someone of his caliber, and other professors in our college Wind Energy program quickly agree! He does the same things as other instructors, so my hat's off to him!Although publicly available, this book is better appreciated by the serious Wind Energy student! This should not imply that the average reader won't receive valuable insights to this developing industry, but prerequisites that will enable the reader to maximize their reading enjoyment include college intermediate algebra, some geometry, some trigonometry and physics are especially helpful. Basics of each subject are already covered in the Iowa Lakes curriculum as the college is among but three AWEA (American Wind Energy Assocation) approved programs in the United States as of this review. The wind industry insists on well-trained personnel for their projects, and the school has been turning out quality graduates since 2006, being among the first in the nation to offer such specialized study.I was not required to purchase this book for my Iowa Lakes studies, yet I know Dr. Hemami has authored other works in the past and ordered this on my own accord and own gut instinct. I was rewarded as this large paperback is worth every cent/dime spent for what a student can obtain from it! It is the depth of the material presented in the 400 pages that makes this book very valuable, and I'll state emphatically this is not one to discard as the material was well-researched and constructed. Publisher Delmar already commands personal respect with their well-constructed Standard Textbook of Electricity, authored by Stephen L. Herman. As far as I'm concerned, these books are both reference works and I treat them as such.Dr. Hemami briefly touches on history of wind energy, the energy within, then the fundamentals come into play. Analysis and characteristics follow, then a lengthly chapter 5 regarding 3-blade turbines gives the most important basics of turbine components that students will encounter since HAWT (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine) 3-bladers are the Large-Wind industry standard. Electricity is what most wind turbines generate, so chapter 6 addresses what can be expected of generation by the wind, yet chapter 9 brings forth the mechanical systems and their weaknesses. I found chapter 13 in mechanical design matters very engaging (it was hard to put it down as a few Eureka Moments were realized as any solidly-written book can give!) After covering vectors last year and reviewing the same recently, I have a better appreciation of the author's understanding of wind turbines through the depth of subject matter, his through understanding of the Laws of both Physics and Economics that pertain to them, and the many facets of the industry he comprehensively covers in 17 chapters. I've not yet finished it all, yet I recommend it for any bona-fide Wind Energy reference.

Book for absolute basics nothing more.
This book is highly simplified. We used it in university for our wind power class and it was not very detailed. It is a great book if you want the basics of wind power.

Wind Turbine Technology
I've read most of the book, it doesn't go deep into electronics. But it does give the student the right amount of knowledge to understand how wind turbines work and gives it in terminology they can understand. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is interested in learning about wind turbines and how they are used for power generation.
