2002 Ford 7.3L PSD great filter with recommendation for tool to remove filter cap
This fuel filter came in the red and white Motorcraft box, so it is OEM. I saw specs on a forum that indicated that the Motorcraft OEM filter has excellent ratings (something like 5 microns and 98% efficiency for water absorption--from memory a few wees ago). These ratings beat the Donaldson by a couple of percentage points. I trust Donaldson, and since this filter is as good or better, I decided to get it. I can't speak to the review that says Racor makes the OEM filter. Mine was labeled Motorcraft. This FD4596 fit perfectly. My old filter was an aftermarket Wix with built-in lid, so my truck was down for several days until I got a replacement cap. Local Ford dealer had a cap for over $62. I found the exact OEM cap at Riff Raff Diesel for $19.93. It looks exactly like the one I got from the local dealer (and then returned). Here is the link: http://www.riffraffdiesel.com/fuel-filter-bowl-cap-99-03/Riff Raff Diesel shipped the fuel cap quickly and I completed the installation. Very happy with this filter and feel good that my engine is well protected. If you need a tool to remove and install the fuel filter cap, I highly recommend the OTC 6760 Fuel Filter Wrench (here on Amazon). It worked great on my 7.3L (turn wrench over for the 6.0L cap).http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DTVBBD2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Works great!
Perfect fit in my 2001 F250 7.3. Motorcraft is Ford OEM and this is a great filter for the powerstroke.NOTE: This filter does not come with a new fuel cap. Be sure you know if your truck currently has a re-usable cap, or a cap that is attached to the filter. My truck was new to me and I didn't realize the previous owner had used a filter without a removable cap. So I had to run to a local auto store and buy a new cap to install this filter. This is no fault of the product since the OEM uses a re-usable cap. It is the aftermarket stuff that has the filter attached.Other than that this filter is an easy install and does what it is supposed to.

Best Micron rating I can find. Sealed up no problem.
I've seen others say they've had issues sealing these fuel filters but I've found as long as you follow directions and take your time aligning and tightening it doesn't have an issue.

99 F250 SD 7.3L
I have a 99 F250 Super Duty 7.3L "Early". Ford did do a mid year change on the fuel filters for the first superdutys so make sure to check. Went to brick stores twice. First sold me a late year filter which is attached to the cap. Second tried again. If your truck is pre-June of 98 I believe it will need the filter without the cap. Easiest thing to do is make sure you have the 34mm socket to pull the cap and check. Do some more research as well on where your truck falls. Other than that no issues and seems to be a good filter. But its a ford and its a motorcraft filter.

Watch the gasket
Thought i had tightened the lid enough but diesel spewed all over the engine and driveway. Cranked on it tighter than i normally would and no leaks since.

Metal can rust
I worked on a 2001 F-350 that had 70k miles on it. Keep in mind this is in Germany where these trucks are foreign- the guy that owns the truck was told by his “professional“ mechanic the truck didn’t have a fuel filter. He purchased the truck from the original owner who was also German, so I don’t know for sure if the filter was ever changed. With that, when I pulled the filter cover I saw rust. The metal on the filter had deteriorated pretty significantly. I’m aware that this instance is a bit different and regular service may have prevented this. However the filter would be better if all the materials were non-corrosive. I’m not sure if bad fuel or fuel additives would accelerate the rust potential. Buyers decision.
