Uppers, Downers, All Arounders: Physical and Mental Effects of Psychoactive Drugs

I had to purchase this book for my college class. At first I thought I wouldn't grow interest, but I was totally wrong. This book has many great topics to learn upon and was very helpful throughout the whole semester of class.

This book was required reading for class that my husband took. As a drug and alcohol counselor already he is quite for Milyer with most of the information in this book. He said that the information is presented in such a way that is easy to understand even if you are not a drug and alcohol professional. The statistics and such are also written in a way that present information in a different view.

I love this textbook! It's nice to see a textbook that's unbiased and only presents information. I hate when you can tell the agenda of the authors.

Great book to learn more on substance use.

Great book for any aspiring substance abuse counselor. Extremely informative yet still interesting. It covers all the basis from prevention, treatment, and recovery. It also covers the specific physical and mental affects both during and after addiction, and the long term neurotransmitter damage that can be caused by certain drugs. The mental health aspects were also very interesting. I would highly recommend this book to anybody working in the mental health field, or any field pertaining to substance abuse.

This was required for my intro to substance abuse disorder class. It’s not terribly dull like some textbooks. It is VERY heavy and hard for me to read unless I prop it up on my little tray/desk that I bought from Amazon.

I have received the book but wanted to let you know that It has alot of highlighted areas already so plz dont charge me for that?Also my class end on 12/6/2018 and the return date for your book is in Nov. A few friends recommended this book as prep for state licensure as an addiction counselor. So far, it is the most concise, easily readable text on addiction I have read, and studying for licensure there have been hundreds. I highly recommend this book for anyone in the addiction field, or counselors that need more help with co-occurring addictions disorders. I was very impressed with the level of state-of-art information contained in this edition.
