Interesting 1911 bk
I have read close to 4-5 1911 books so far and this one has the latest info about this industry. The contents are valuable but it could be better organized. There are too many repeated opinions that are said too many times and I wished the reviews of certain guns are all consolidated in one spot at the end.Regarding opinions that the author shares, I would like to see references to research and documents (from tests done by Federal/state agencies or other authoritative organizations). Anyone can give their opinions, but research that were conducted and proven means more.No 1911 book in the market has an index at the end of the book. If there's one that has an index, it will be head and shoulder above the rest.Reviews of upper mid-tier guns did not include the S&W SW1911 Performance Center gun. Personally, I think this model is built like a vault and better than a SA TRP or Kimber Gold Combat. It's a little secret that not many reviewers know because they did not have access to a sample to test. May be S&W should do their part to push these into the hands of reviewers. In conclusion, I like the writing style better than P. Sweeney; the author has a more direct way to saying things.

1911 Review
While…The 1911 Pistol! Does it get any bigger or better than that? If you're like me, and consider this pistol to be one of , if not the , best pistol to ever go into production, then you have to love this book. I found the book to be very helpful in looking at and going over the many 1911 pistols available today. With the 100th year celebration over now, the 1911 is still the most popular pistol ever, and as such, it is in every publication and a version is made by every major player in the firearms market. This book went thru the long list of manufacturers, and separated the good from the better and into the best. The research was very broad and done in a sensible and objective way. They separated the pistols into organized groups, such as duty rated, LOE/Military, Competition, Carry and so forth. The book shared history, both of evolution and materials used in the pistol, the many uses and who those different pistols have to live up to different standards. I enjoyed the book and I'm honored to have it in my firearms Book collection.

Gun Digest Shooters Guide to the 1911
Gun Digest alone has put out several books dealing with the 1911 pistol and it's favorite cartridge, the .45 ACP. While all of these have historical insight, updates, listings of the various types of 1911's from different manufacturers, and tales of competition shooting, perhaps of most use is this volume that deals more with shooting the 1911 than collecting or studying them. Each book on the 1911 I have read has had some overlap with others, but each has also managed to give me a little something i did not get elsewhere. Those who do not fully appreciate the timeless quality of the 1911 may find some of this stuff boring, but those as enthralled with the pistol as i am will drink it all in - and finish the book wanting more.[...]

Not bad but ...
Not a bad book but ... there's always a but with ebooks, isn't there? First off, as with every other ebook I've ever read there are egregious errors in the physical layout - doubled lines, grammar errors, mislabeled photo's, etc. The other problem is the writing itself - did this book actually have an editor? The author has a bad habit of writing very scattershot paragraphs with totally unrelated ideas and facts bundled together in one. He also repeats himself many, many times on various things throughout the book.

This book should be titled "Kimber - a love story for the ages"
The book was not poorly written and offers a good insight into 1911 history, caliber performance and other miscellaneous information. However, the constant reference to Kimber 1911's leaves one with the feeling that it is the one to buy, when in fact there are many other brands that are just as effective and do not cost a months salary. All in all, a decent book.

Very Poorly Edited
This book is chock full of good information about the venerable Colt .45 semi-automatic, the U.S. military's prime handgun from WWI through Vietnam and still used by spec ops units today.Sadly, in a rush to publication, the book is full of typos, grammatical errors, etc. That offended the former journalist in me. Normally Gun Digest books are very well done, but as 2011 is the 100th anniversary of the M1911, this got rushed and it shows.

Best pricing for a new-unused copy
Shipped quick and way cheaper than even the second hand book stores off it for.Book has good content although the writer has a huge a bias for the 1911 platform.Reading other reviews on the web, made the content clear before purchasing and I was not disappointed.

Good book
This is a good book for anyone who has a passion for the 1911. But it should have been called "The Shoppers Guide" because its basically a bunch of ads for differnt brands in book form.

Gut

Good book about 1991
It's a good book about 1911, with images and good information, but the autor is a "fanatic" of this sort of pistols.

shooters guide to the 1911
it was very informative and interesting I learned a lot from the book. I think that someone that would like to know more about little things on the 1911 that you do not hear about at your local gun club this is a very fine book to get.
