I absolutely 100% LOVE these heads
I absolutely 100% LOVE these heads!! I have two Ludwig Supraphonic 402 metal snares and to be honest, they sound great no matter what head you use as long as they are good quality heads but these ST Dry heads take the snare to a whole new level. I have used just about every head out there throughout the years and have usually been pretty happy with most of them. A couple of years ago I switched from a Remo coated Emperor, which sounded great, to an Evans coated G2 because I had been hearing a lot of good reports on them. It sounded better than the Emperor so I stuck with the G2's for a couple of years and was quite happy with them, but found I still had to use either a small piece of Moon Jel or a tone control ring to get rid of excess overtones. Recently it was time for a head change again so I decided to tryone of these Evans ST Dry heads. Only took a few days to get here from Amazon, and when I put it on the 402 and tuned it up, I was totally blown away at how GREAT it sounded. I am a big fan of Bonham (who isn't) and always try to get a similar sound as he got out of his 402 snares. This thing gave me exactly that Bonzo sound I have been striving for these years and with the small vent holes all around the outside edge of the head I do not use any Moonjel, rings, or any other muffling whatsoever. I get a huge crack on rimshots but it still has enough sensitivity for lighter playing near the center of the head, buzz rolls, and even works very well with brushes. All I can say is that without question, this is thebest snare head I have ever used, and I will be ordering more for my other snares when it is time to change heads. HIGHLY recommend these to anyone that wants a great snare sound. This is the one you want, believe me.

Very, very dry
I normally get the Evans Genera Dry Coated and mistakenly got this head.I'm not sure how I feel about it quite yet, but after about 2 straight hours of playing on it I do know that it's probably the dryest snare head I've ever played on, but make no mistake it has it's character and sensitivity, but it's very controlled and very warm with some nice high/quick ring, so if that's what you're looking for, this is definitely for you. I should mention I use pretty tight tension on my snare, but I started out a little looser than normal and it had no ring, and as I played I gave it more tension until I got a bit of ring...but I like that. While my stars may be a little premature, I have yet to have an Evans head that didn't have Durability/Versatility/Longevity, so I'm going to stick by it. I only gave Versatility 3 stars because this going to be a pretty specific sound and may not work for everything. I would say if you're looking for a fat, very warm and controlled sound, this would probably be ideal for you.

Favorite Snare Head
Using this on my 10-lug Ludwig Black Beauty with diecast hoops and it provides a focused, dry crack with lots of attack and still plenty of tone to let the integrity of the shell to come through. It's a thicker head but I'm still getting lots of sensitivity for ghost notes and brushes. It's not the cheapest head on the market, but I believe you get what you pay for with this one.

The best drumhead for a wood snare.
I own a 6;5 maple snare. This is the best drumhead for this kind of snare, in my opinion. I can get a dark, fat sound from my snare with it, and also dry enough and lowing a lot the overtones but without muting them all, so the sound of snare is warm and natural.

Evans Drumheads all the way!
This is my favorite snare batter head I’ve ever played. Very responsive, easy to tune and produces a great crack/pop sound when tuned high. The vent holes are a great innovation. Absolutely recommend buying this snare head

Working great on my son's snare
My son has a Pearl Forum series snare and with the standard beater head it was ringing terribly. It was past time to change the head anyway so I researched a replacement that hopefully would help with the ringing issue. I came across the Evans ST as a head some recommend for excess ringing problems. So we installed this head and it was quite an improvement over the stock head but still had some ringing. We then cut a 1 1/2 inch ring out of the old head and laid it on top of the new head and it sounds great.

Very well made and affective.
Great sounding but way over priced!

Great head. Adds more body to my snare.
Great head. Adds more body to the sound of my snare drum. Adds durability and other benefits without making my snare sound too muffled or choked.

Spettacolare
Spettacolare, bellissima, suono fantastico.
