Karasu translates to “Crow” in Japanese and is a symbol of good luck. They are members of the carp family. Along with several varieties of wild carp, the carp family also includes farm-raised koi fish. Butterfly Koi growth rates are based on food, space, water quality and surrounding environment and can grown up to 30" and larger. The older a Butterfly Koi is, the more prominent and distinct its color pattern will be. Also known as longfin koi or dragon carp, the most prominent feature of butterfly koi are its elongated finnage. As a butterfly koi matures the longer its finnage will be. While standard fin koi have a more oval shaped body, Butterfly koi tend to have a more slender body shape. Butterfly Koi are a great addition to any freshwater aquarium or garden pond. They can be mixed with any straight tailed goldfish including common goldfish, pond comets, sarasa comets and shubunkins, as well as standard fin koi. Butterfly Koi are omnivores and will eat all types of dried and live food, but basic fish flakes or pellet food will provide the proper diet.
