I did a lot of research trying to find this type of product and all, except this one, were made with a lot of plastic and were close or just as expensive. I just had the opportunity this past weekend to try it out and it met 99% of my expectations. One tine did snap off, but after trying to figure out why, I came to realize that I was working in soil that had a really high clay content and was extremely sun baked. For the job I was trying to do, I should have been using an actual tiller. Saying that, the little thing did really well (considering) and redeemed itself once I used it in soil that wasn't so dry and didn't have such a high clay content. I would buy this again in a heartbeat and the one tine missing did not diminish it's effectiveness.

Did the job, but could be better
We bought this for turning up soil where we wanted to plant new grass. Our soil has a lot of clay so it compacts easily. The tool did the job, and was relatively easy to use, but two design flaws were apparent: (1) the blade units at the end are removable, which is nice, but the clamps that hold them in place tend to loosen with ordinary use, so you are constantly tightening them. (2) The pole extends, but it is still not long enough, and you have to bend down to really lean into the work, making it much harder on the back than necessary. A full-length pole would have made it much easier to use.

It's an animal!
I bought this because I no longer able to garden as I used to. Can't get on my knees. The tines make a wind chime sound until full of weeds, but worth it as I said it's an animal. Almost no effort to grab runner weeds and remove them. Set screws must be repeatedly tightened because of the vibration from the tines. But it works well. I am impressed with it's power as I have none due to multiple back surgeries. I'm impressed.

Unless your yard is made of compost or is soft to begin with don't waste your money!
I bought this in hopes of keeping weeds under control. It looks like I bought this for naught. It is made of EXTREMELY lightweight aluminum and in no way weighs even near 33 lbs shipping weight that include the worthless tool, tons of paper, and a ridiculously huge cardboard box (the box is heaviest) and will not work at all on hard or normal soil due to the extremely lightweight aluminum construction. I feel this was a total waste of my money as it did virtually NOTHING except give me a backache. It wouldn't penetrate the soil wet or dry and didn't even plow one weed under as the tips would not even make dents in the dirt. If you have hard or even regular dirt do not waste your money on this contraption. Get a motorized tiller instead. If your yard is made up of compost and/or other soft purchased ground fill, by all means this should/could work for your yard, but if you have regular soil like most everyone, unless you are superman you will break your back getting nowhere fast or slow and feel like stuporman instead for wasting your money. Who has a yard made entirely of soft material like compost? Don't waste your money on this hunk of junk! Looks like it would work but does not in real world situations. It might if the thing were heavy and made of cast iron but then you'd be sore from the weight of the thing.EDIT 11/25/2010This useless thing is still hanging unused taking up space doing nothing. Save your money and space. I'm thinking about getting a Garden Weasel.EDIT 1/10/13I Don't know where this useless thing is now but it is somewhere around here waiting to remind me of my dumb moment. I don't even care to look for this to give away. Why give it to someone else that won't be able to use it and have them get pissed at you for dumping this on them? What a waste of money!PS: I never got the garden weasel. We've got gardeners instead. I've gotten lazy.

I received this 2 days ago and was excited to use it in my garden. Let me note the ground was not hard and had been tilled. I just wanted this to use every other day around plants to break up the ground. Unfortunately like others posted the outside wheel came off and the piece holding the two wheel spikes together came off and could not be found. I can not find out how to contact the seller and do not want to hassle of sending back. I will find a bolt or something to keep it on. It works great when not falling apart. Would be perfect if built a little better. So if buying be prepared to have to fix it. The good news is I am hoping it can be fixed and with the right bolt to hold the spikes on it will be alot better. The rest of it is made well except for the important part, the bolts that hold it on.

I appreciate being able to share a review. This product looked dependable, but I would not order it again....My 6 year old grand daughter asked if she could use it. After a little mini lesson I gave her the honors. The Yard Butler IRC-3 Rotary Cultivator is made with a heavier metal, but the bolts that hold the 'teeth' - he cultivating piece - loosened easily. After about three times of her going back and forth, one of the 'teeth pieces' fell off. I easily put it back on, but after just a few moments again of using it, they loosened again.. It is not for a hardy garden unless you don't mind every few minutes having to tighten the bolts. The adjustable handle does not lock and stay into place. When I used it, it kept slipping - needless to say I was disappointed.I went down to our local village hardware store and surprisingly found a Garden Weasel. I did not know they carried them. It is not made with a heavy metal, but the prongs, teeth at least stay bolted. It also is not adjustable, but I can at least use it and not be concerned about the handle slipping. I will keep the Yard Butler [I already recycled the box it came in] and allow my granddaughters to use it along with showing them how to tighten the bolts. The Yard Butler will be a lifetime tool because it is not being used very much by an adult. I wish I could write something different and I wish this tool was made better. This is one of the times I thought - I should not have ordered online. Sincerely, Mickey

Good tool.
Works very well. Quick short strokes mulched a thick layer of thatch. All metal construction (no plastic, except end caps). The telescoping handle works so far... I can see this being the weak point where the handle gets shorter if you push too hard. But I can control that by installing a hose clamp to maintain the proper length, if in time it comes to that. Overall we like using it for a quick tool to mulch the ground. The great thing about it is that it is made up using very little plastic.

Helped
I've never used one of these before so to be honest, I don't have anything to compare it to. It did the trick for me in the first area I used it in. For sure helped me out. Moved into a house that a lot of areas have been sitting with no proper care until now. Would have made the job a lot harder without this tool. Gave 4 out of 5 starts because there were a few times when the blades didn't want to turn for me as well as the handle did slip out a couple times from its adjusted length.
