Q: 1. Does it have a mode to choose just vaccuing? and 2. does it pick up small buscuits pieces and cereal pieces etc?

Yes it has a normal vacuum setting and an edge vacuum setting. It doesn't use the mop on either of those settings. It's had no problem picking up crumbs and the like, it's especially good on hardwood or linoleum, it does pick them up off rugs and carpet but needs a couple of passes to get them all.
