The Avengers remains an era defining TV series and retains an edge over many other small screen offerings as it celebrates its 50th Anniversary. With its imaginative stories of secret agents in 1960s swinging Britain, The Avengers combines science fiction with fantasy, fashion and a unique sense of style, and can rightly claim its place as a prime example of the spy-fi genre. We may be in the 21st century, but The Avengers retains a fascination that is as fresh today as it was when it first took off on the small screen.Exciting, quirky, bizarre and quintessentially British, The Avengers pioneered many themes of modern television whilst introducing three of its best ever characters Steed (Patrick Macnee) Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman) and Emma Peel (Diana Rigg). With a unique take on Britishness, the series pioneered the use of all manner of tricks and gadgets and created Steed, the archetypal English gentleman in Savile Row suit, bowler hat and umbrella –alongside sexy, powerful women in high-heeled “kinky boots”, influencing film and TV including James Bond and Dr Who.The longest running espionage series produced for English-language television, The Avengers eventually reached audiences in 120 countries, a record that still stands to this day. Now, with the release of The Avengers: The Complete 50th Anniversary Collection you can enjoy every single episode of this timeless classic time and time again.

Great set but............
I love having the entire history of the show. I love to see the changes over time as well as the fashion and the actors who pop in different episodes over the life of the series. I am a fan of the show and ALL the actors. The women broke ground as being intelligent and independent. And they all handled themselves in a fight, which I loved being a budding feminist at the time. I was 12 when I first started watching. The Cathy Gale series is new to me.I truly love John Steed as he exemplifies so many great qualities of a man. Plus, the show is so witty and smart.I have 2 CDs which can't be viewed and the site I bought them from can only ask me for the cost of postage of sending the whole set back. I don't want to do that. I thought I could get replacements which I see was not an option so I ordered the odd set. The quality wasn't as good. The quality of the set was great. One thing I didn't like was the commentary on one episode. I felt it was catty and small minded.

Even the actors with minor roles do a great job. Anything on The Avengers
British TV is superb. Even the actors with minor roles do a great job. Anything on The Avengers, The New Avengers, The Saint, The Return of the Saint, Danger Man AKA Secret Agent, and the Prisoner I would like to see in Region 1.

... had with the region 2 on the dvds is easily worked around
the issue some people had with the region 2 on the dvds is easily worked around, since some people believe this takes away the corporation copy rights, i will not go into that. the quality of the dvd is poor on the early years of the series, but I do not blame the dvd makers, they had bad video to start with. i am happy the dvd's were made at all. but do go in with your eyes open these issues could be a deal breaker for most people

cheaper from Amazon UK
121 (incl VAT and shipping) from amazon uk,(7/4/2015) suppose to be remastered by Canal Studio.Sent out 7/2 received 7/7. The DVDs are difficult to remove, on each side of paper insert are photos with episode title. There was a label on case stating "6913 min approx", "exclusive bonus disc...fully ditigally restored...". Extras are Diana comic book, Exclusive DVD Booklett of photos, Episode Guide. So far the B&W episodes have the same defects as previous releases. However there are a lot of comments by actors in many episodes. Hopefully the color epi are really better than previous.Have previous US releases in different series so I can compare 50th annv with ones I have already. The annv is PAL format. looking forward to the extras.7/6/2015PALs play just fine on PC. You can get also buy all region DVD player (from amazon) so PAL wouldn't be a problem.7/9/2015Comments on UK amazon complaint is DVDs aren't in any order of broadcast.however there is a paper insert listing episode titles on each DVD - series # and disk #. There are no titles on the DVDs.8/19/2015Numbering is unacceptable, and list of titles should be marked on each DVD.

Why Not Redo The Complete Series And Offer It To Region One People
Was wondering why Studio Canal put this The Avengers 50th Anniversary only on a Pal Format and not on Region One as well? I for one am a Huge The Avengers Fan and I would Purchase the Entire Collection like the one sold here only in England. Does anyone know if they are planning to Release the Complete Series Again on Region One on Dvd or Blu Ray? Your help on this matter would be not only helpful for myself but for other Avengers Fans well.

What's this about Region 2 and multi-region DVD players?
I'm confused. I have a multi-region DVD player but I don't know what PAL or NTSC means for my setup. If I have a DVD player that will play the disks, are there any other things I need or is that it???

Sinon parfait.

Marvellous of course...

The Avengers..... A cool slice of Britiannia
"The Avengers" has earned it's place in pop culture. One of the most successful television shows of it's time, the series is now widely regarded as a classic and rightly so. The weekly adventures of gentlemen British agent John Steed and his succession of sexy, smart and ass kicking female sidekicks entertained millions of viewers worldwide. Now thanks to Optimum Releasing, all of the surviving episodes are included in this impressive DVD boxset collection.Beginning in 1961 and finishing in 1969 "The Avengers" much like the decade it was made in, changed with the times. Starting out as a straight-forward crime drama series, the show featured two men roaming the dark streets of London in trenchcoats fighting villians. The original star of the series was Ian Hendry as the young and idealistic Dr David Keel and Patrick Macnee (who was the co-star) as shadowy agent John Steed. Determined to "avenge" the death of his fiancee (hence the series title) who is gunned down by a gang of drug dealers, Keel joins forces with Steed and a crime fighting duo is born. "The Avengers" was an immediate hit with viewers, however Ian Hendry decided to more onto greener pastures after one season (ie: a film career) and left the show leaving Macnee at the helm. What happened next would not only take the series in a very different direction, but ultimately onto bigger and better things. The show broke ground by introducing strong, intelligent, independent women who were capable of looking after themselves without playing second fiddle to a man. Whilst this type of character is quite commonplace on television today, back in the 60's it certainly wasn't. From the cool charms of Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman) to the elegant wit of Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) and through to the playful manner of Tara King (Linda Thorson), the show continued to change and evolve from a gritty crime show to a surreal spy series with tongue in cheek elements. From a product perspective, the episodes have been digitally upgraded and this is particularly noticeable in the Diana Rigg & Linda Thorson episodes. The images are crisp and the sound quality is very clear. Sadly the upgrades to the Honor Blackman episodes are not as obvious. This is due to the fact that the original master prints are not in the best of conditions so any improvements would be negligible at best. However what this DVD Boxset has is a whole wealth of extras that are worth seeing and hearing. From audio commentaries (surprisingly none of the cast we're involved. Instead we have writers and directors offering their insight) to trailers, screen tests, interviews, documentaries, promotional footage and material and even unusual offerings that aren't directly connected with the series but featuring it's cast members. Well worth checking out. All of it is presented in a large stylish black book with an array of photos and a detailed guide. Top marks for presentation and actual material. In short, the folks at Optimum have done themselves (and fans) a real service by releasing a boxset that not only celebrates a landmark in television making, but covering as much ground as possible (and that ground is pretty extentsive) by giving people everything but the kitchen sink. For fans of this classic show, it's a must have if you don't have any of "The Avengers" on DVD. For those wanting a slice of vintage television that truly broke new ground and still holds up well today, treat yourselves to this release.
