Purposely made bad to be good
This movie is an effin' JOKE - but ON PURPOSE.It starts out for the first few minutes somewhat convincingly serious, albeit stupid and cringe-worthy (and not at all in a good way). This is probably the point at which some people just decided to stop watching, and likely the reason we have some IMDb and Amazon reviews complaining about the dad and son characters cast with actors a little too close in age, or how the house shark can seemingly enter toilets and pipes that are much smaller than the size of its own body.If these reviewers had continued watching past the first fifteen minutes, they'd have been bombarded with evidence that this is an obvious joke film. The over the top crude humor, gross makeup effects, ham acting, and general ridiculousness creeps in not at all subtly, to the point that no semi-functioning human could possibly mistake this for a serious movie. I mean there's a German guy wearing costume lederhosen and being introduced into the movie by basically doing a Nazi march into the scene, and an orphan girl from the neighborhood who says "It's back to the high-kill adoption shelter for me" - just to give you a small taste of the style of humor.Don't go into this taking any comparison to "Jaws" at face value. Sure, there's a dose of "Jaws" parody throughout, but this movie is comparable more to the Laser Cats skits on SNL with Andy Samberg. It's cheesy, it's ridiculous, it makes use of dumb animal props and immature adult humor (you know what I mean), but nobody involved is trying to be taken seriously at any point, and it makes for a good chuckle. It's actually quite admirable the amount of creativity that went into this large, nearly two hour collection of crude stupidity and random jokey plot twists.I watched this alone because I was bored, but I will DEFINITELY re-watch it with my boyfriend so we can both have a good laugh and scream "EWW" and "WTF" at it together. And considering the production value was good, and there were no *unintentional* issues with acting or shooting that distracted from the joke film itself, I would look into watching more dumb joke movies from these people in the future!

Laugh out loud funny - intentionally over the top
The people who gave this one star would have also given AIRPLANE or SCARY MOVIE one star. You have to “get it”. It’s an indie film on a very low budget, so you have to accept it’s not going to be full of CGI and special effects. Given that, they do a lot with visual effects that are insanely clever, inventive, and absolutely hilarious. I laughed out loud all the way through this. Great dialog and one liners every couple of minutes. You have to pay attention to get the jokes as many are references to Jaws. There’s a fight scene between the three main characters and the house shark in which the hysterically over the top “German guy” character tells the hero, who is dressed as a “female” shark (wearing a pink apron) to show the house shark his “lady parts” to keep it from killing them, that had me rolling. I watched this three times on Prime for free before buying the Blu Ray. The three main characters are all great, but Trey Harrison and Michael Merchant were the two who absolutely sold me on the movie. Michael Merchant put “The Night of Something Strange “ into comedic gold and he does the same thing with “House shark” with his wonderfully over the top performance. I actually did not even realize it was the same actor until I looked it up on IMDb, he’s so different in this film. In both films, he was the funniest character. Trey Harrison, who was also in Night of Something Strange is the perfect straight man, and balances out his counterparts perfectly. The directing is awesome with some really great camera work on what had to be a very limited budget. The last 15 minute underwater sequence is possibly one of the best things I have seen in an indie film. Hilarious and so inventive. I am a huge John Waters fan and I would say this team of actors, producers, and director/writer are creating similar cult classics. Even the credits are funny, with a reference to aliens that you have to wait for to the very very end. There are a ton of horror comedy films that try to be intentionally bad and don’t pull off making that funny. It’s a very difficult thing to do and these guys have done it perfectly. I don’t think I would ever say this movie is intentionally bad. It’s not. It’s intentionally over the top and it’s done in such a way that it’s very smart and makes you laugh very hard.

Don’t bother ordering
The front cover is a misrepresentation of the film as it depicts a real shark instead of the ridiculous foam/rubber prop used throughout this excuse for a film. I really wouldn’t bother ordering this as the disappointment will put you in a bad mood for the rest of the day. It’s unbelievably atrocious acting amazes me how it managed to get to production in the first place. Complete waste of time and money.

An astonishingly abhorrent movie. Arrived in good condition.
The DVD was in good shape and arrived swiftly. The movie itself is an affront to human decency, being roughly two hours in length and filled with writing, acting, and effects that make you want to teeter over the edge and finally succumb to the clawing temptations of death. Overall a perfect joke gift for friends and foes alike.
