Excellent filter, just make sure to wash really well
It's a sponge filter with decent quality plastic that seems to be better than most of the other market. (definitely more durable than any of the Lee's product). Sponge can be removed easily for cleaning, you do not need to disassemble any components to do so. The outlet can also be adjusted so you can have it in or out of water- I usually have out of water for good water circulation. Instead being sitting on the substrate, it attaches to the glass which actually prevent junk build up on the bottom.Even better that it has little room for you to add any of your filter media for extra biochemical filtration power. There are three things that you need to be aware of:-You will need more than 1w air pump for it to work, so if you're using USB air pumps or other small form, it may not work well. Regular 2.5w air pump, like Tetra whisper will do just fine.-**you MUST wash sponge in hot water before using it** It may or may not hurt the fish, but the sponges that I received had strong chemical smell. I had to wash it in running hot water, in the bucket for good 15 minutes to get rid of the smell.-this sponge filter works by culturing bacteria (that breaks down ammonia from fish's excrements to safer substances) into the sponge. **IT DOES NOT HAVE THAT BACTERIA OUT OF BOX**, you will need to cycle the tank properly WITH THIS FILTER before using it. If "tank cycling" sounds unfamiliar to you, then please go research that before getting a fish. If you have already added the fish before reading the tank cycling, I'd suggest getting a FritzZyme turbo product, a bottled live bacteria.

OUTSTANDING PRODUCT!
I decided to give this particular style of aquarium filter and I'm so glad I did!!! I'm so happy with it, I'm ordering one for my other 2 aquariums. With the regular, black filters that hang off the back of the tank, I find that trying to effectively clean them is nearly impossible! You can't get anywhere near the inside of the filter housing so you never know whether or not it's really cleaned. And if there is uncleaned algae in there, you're never going to get rid of the sludge in it or your tank! Plus you have to keep buying expensive filter replacements, carbon, etc., it can really add up.With this filter, I have found that cleaning is a breeze . . . every joint and curve comes easily apart and using small brushes, I can get in every nook and cranny to make sure it's really clean, and being clear plastic, it's easy to see if you have gotten it clean or not. It's easy to take apart, put back together and the sponges are very affordable because you can wash them out several times before replacing them.I have 3 small aquariums and these are now the ONLY filters I will use from now on to keep cleaning time and expense down.I highly recommend this filter!

Super Happy Customer (and Happy Fish lol)
The media could not be loaded. Soooo...I am a newbie at all this fish stuff. I bought a betta for my daughter less than a year ago and I have struggled with cloudy water and semi high ammonia levels (even though I do the required water changes and have tried everything Google and Pet stores have recommended to try)I had been using the filter that came with my tank (which was supposed to be a really good filter...) but I continued having these issues with cloudy water and ammonia etc.I finally decided to try a different filter...and after doing some more reading and research, I decided on this submersible filter. When it got delivered I was confused because I didn't know you HAD to have an air pump in order for this filter to work lol...sooo I went out the next day and purchased an air pump and tubing...got it all set up...and its freakin AWESOME! As you can see in the before and after pictures, it cleared my water up in 24hrs or less! The video was immediately after I put it in, so it was still cloudy in the video....but the "after" picture was literally the next day. The set up was quick...the delivery was fast...I have had zero issues with the sponges or the suction...everything seems to be working great! I only gave 4 stars because I have only had the filter in there for a week or less....so I can't really comment on longevity of the product....but...so far so good! I def recommend :)

Perfect for a nano-tank
I really like this little sponge filter. The sponge is a favorite snack-bar for the shrimp and snails. The outflow tube telescopes to your desired height. The flow is only as strong or gentle as your air-pump. I'm using a small wattage battery-backup unit, and it has a gentle circulation. The unit can be assembled/disassembled easily for cleaning. Also, I put some fine netting between the bottom tube and the base section to keep shrimp and snails from invading the sponge filter and getting stuck inside. That did not restrict the flow, and has actually diffused the air-bubbles, giving a better result in the outflow. The suction cups on the top and bottom of the uptake tube can be turned in any direction, and are strong and reliable. This sponge filter take up less room than the internal filter that was being used, and eliminates the danger of having tiny tank-mates sucked up into the unit.

Effective Sponge Filter
The media could not be loaded. Product:I have had this double sponge filter for almost two months, and it does an excellent job of cleaning up all the debris and particles. Maintenance is straightforward, and the plastic components are pretty sturdy. The suction cups hold the unit firmly in place. I ended up replacing the included ceramic media balls with crushed-up Seachem Matrix. Even with the water level slightly lower (due to maintenance), the water coming out of the outlet is very quiet at surface level.Flow rate:I've calculated the flow rate to be approximately 95 litres per hour when paired with a Tetra Whisper 300 air pump, utilising both outlets with a check valve. Conclusion:Overall, I recommend this for anyone looking to keep their aquarium water clean and clear with minimal hassle.

Extremely disappointed.
After reading all the rave reviews of this product I felt sure it would be great in my 10 gal aquarium. After assembling, cleaning it, the next morning I woke up and my tank was twice as cloudy as when I put it in. I took it out and put my old single sponge in and the tank cleared in a couple of hours. I had a new pump with way more power and it seemed to be struggling. I couldn’t run the air stone the same time as the unit. This to me was a piece of crap. I didn’t even box it to return I was so mad I chucked it in the garbage!
