Having begun as a side project while Chris Barnes was fronting Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under became a full-fledged and unstoppable entity in 1995, and over the course of their career they have consistently helped shape the face of death metal through their uncompromising approach to their craft. Six Feet Under is one of the longest standing and successful acts in death metal history, with all but their debut album appearing on a Billboard chart. That auspicious debut, 1995's Haunted, featuring production from Scott Burns and Obituary guitarist Allen West, along with definitive follow-up efforts Warpath (1997) and Maximum Violence (1999) are being reissued courtesy of longtime label Metal Blade Records.

Play over and over and over and over ...
I get on these "band benders." My last bender was for Crowbar. Before that, The Sex Pistols. Love Crowbar's loud, slow, sludge metal. Then I thought it would be a good time to dip back into my SFU collection. The first CD I popped into my car, at random, was this one. It has been in my auto cd player for 6 days straight. I play it over and over and over. It is fantastic! I just went digging for "Unborn." I remember I liked that disc a lot. If anyone has a chance to chime in, what are your favorite SFU cd's beyond "Unborn" and "Haunted?"

Best album ever
I bought this as more of a wall hanger. The reason i bought it is because it is one of the best death metal albums ever. If you love death metal and havent listened to this album do yourself a favor and buy it.

Awesome debut album!
This is by far the best Six Feet Under album I've listened to! I enjoyed most of their other albums, but the tracks on this, especially Beneath the Black Sky are ones I really liked! The vocals are pretty clear for death metal, and the drumming is done just right! I'd highly recommend this for any death metal fan!

Nun zugegeben, Chris Barnes Gegrunze ist wirklich nicht jedermanns sache, aber 1995 zusammen mit dem genialen Orbituary-Gitaristen Allen West hat er ein echtes Referenzwerk in sachen Slow- Midempodeathmetal geschaffen, der zudem noch tierisch groovt und bei de man sogar noch mit dem zehen wippen möchte, wenn einem beim Hören dieses Albuns die haut abgezogen wird.So gut wie damals und zusammen mit dem Nachfolgeralbum WARPATH waren SFU leider bis Death Rituals nie wieder.Da können auch die Gravejardclassic Alben i-III nicht mithalten. Also, wenn ihr mal guten Deathmetal mit geiler Gitarrenarbeit hören wollt und dazu noch in echt groovigen Midtempo, dann seit ihr mit diesem Album genau richtig !Auf zur Schlachtbank und die Skalpelle zum Häuten gewetzt !
