Excellent for repurposing a spare M.2 NVME drive.
I purchased this to use with a spare 250gb Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVME drive and must say it has exceeded my expectations! Not only is it fairly quick on USB 3.1 Gen 2, the enclosure is a nice, well-machined piece of hardware. I’m impressed with the small size and build quality. It was very easy to install the drive in the enclosure, which comes with a thermal pad as well as a supply of screws and a small screwdriver. The drive comes with a USB 3 type C to type A connector, which works great, although I’ve just ordered a high-speed USB type C to type C cable which I imagine will provide similar speeds. If I see a difference I’ll follow up with an update.I copied 1200 various size videos files totaling 92gb in less than 3 minutes, and while it got a bit warm, it didn’t get as hot as some small thumb drives I’ve used. It started out at over 800mbs, and at the slowest maintained above 300mbs, not bad at all for any USB drive! It's faster than any USB drive I've seen so far, including the very fast Samsung T5. Plus, since it has the high-quality Samsung V-NAND MLC memory, rather than the lower quality memory common in regular USB drives, it should be far, far more durable. If you have a spare or old m.2 NVME drive, I highly recommend trying this USB enclosure.

Slim but cheaply made, gets uncomfortably hot
Have ordered 3 different NVME enclosures, including Elecgear and this one to test and compare. They all have the same chipset and seem to offer very similar transfer speeds in my (large file >3Gb) read/write tests-Roughly 300/200MBs over usb 3.1 gen 1 port and about 550/260MBs over USB 3.1 gen 2/thunderbolt port. Where they all differ drastically is in the heat dissipation and general design areas. This one looks and feels on the cheap-o side of things, especially so for the price. The aluminum edges are sharp and unpolished and the scratching noise it makes when assembling/taking apart is not very pleasant. On the bright side, it is definitely slim and that earns it one extra star. But more importantly than the looks is the fact it gets uncomfortably hot and I imagine having such a slim enclosure built of thin aluminum doesn't help in the heat dissipation department (even with the included thermal pad).I'm going to stick with a much beafier and much better looking/feeling Elecgear that too gets rather warm, but not uncomfortably hot (extra aluminum thickness must help). And it surely looks miles and miles better--a very nicely polished block of aluminum, albeit bigger and heavier.

Fast, but OUCH!
Works well. Shockingly well, in fact, with a samsung EVO 970 ssd. That said, this thing gets uncomfortably hot. It is difficulty to hold, and while it feels like the aluminum is making a good heat sink, I have to wonder if this is a great long term solution. Bought mostly for making an SSD swap on my system to then use the smaller drive as a USB C external.

Great enclosure. Minor quibbles.
Great enclosure, with 2 minor complaints. I like that the activity light is tiny and faint, but I do wish it had a "lens" on it that would make it easier to see from various angles. Also, I wish these enclosure manufacturers would include or offer USBC-to-USBC cables. I'm not putting a PCIE NVME drive into an enclosure to choke it with USB 3.0 speeds. But with the right cable I'm hitting ~960mbps, so it's delivering its promised 10gbps theoretical speed. Very nice. I might buy another one unless I find something similar with a proper USB 3.1 type C cable.

Ok for short usage. But not what i was wanting for a supplemental drive plugged in continuously
Ok got the clone done. But wouldn't want to leave it plugged in long. Got so hot my awesome speeds diminished halfway through. What was initially estimated at 10 minutes turned into 40 with me blowing cool air on it and opening it up to cool it down. Vents would help the design imho or a fan.

Works great
This works perfectly with my 1TB NVMe SSD. No issues after ~4 months of use

42mb/s... thats right, 42mb/s
Maybe I received a defective unit, but it was painfully slow @ 42mb/s sequential read/write with Samsung Evo 970. Will return and order a different one.

NO - Heat conducting silica gel pad x10 !!!
NONE DELIEVERED WITH ORDER !!! - Heat conducting silica gel pad x10 ... would have gotten 5 Stars !

Good but overpriced?
I think these devices are much of the same, this one was a tad expensive but certainly did the job no problem
