Asperger's Syndrome Workplace Survival Guide: A Neurotypical's Secrets for Success

Valuable. Practical.
Really like this book ASD for adults in the workplace. Readable language, with real, practical tips. Author with substantive credibility working with adults on the spectrum. Provides insights from a neuro typical viewpoint so you know what to expect and how to respond. What to do. What not to do. Read it in small portions, 1/2 chapter at a time, so the information could soak in and apply. Recommended.

realistic, solution-oriented, and professional
This book provides a good balance between specific examples (situations, solutions, and outcomes) and general strategies for identifying problems and improving workplace conditions. Content is realistic, backed by professional experience, and not readily available from other sources; tone is solution-oriented and positive. The book is under 200 pages long but is well-organized and rarely repeats ideas. I benefited by reading this book and plan to read it again in the future. Also highly recommended: Living Well on the Spectrum: How to Use Your Strengths to Meet the Challenges of Asperger Syndrome/High-Functioning Autism .

Great if you have a job...wish it had information on interviewing for a job.
This is a great book for someone starting a new job or navigating an existing job. My only critisizm is that I wish there was a chapter on "How to get a job" on interviewing skills and other nuances.

Very complete, very useful for college educated adults with high functioning ASD or Asperger sybdrome
I facilitate or volunteer at three different job clubs for adults with Asperger Syndrome or high functioning autism. This is one of the most complete and useful resources we have found and use. It is targeted at those adults with a college education and normal to high intelligence who generally are unable to qualify for government services. I highly recommend it.

This was somewhat useful but somehow not precise enough
This was somewhat useful but somehow not precise enough. Of course, you should go out to lunch with your colleagues but anyone reading this is reading it because they are hypersensitive and are seeking for ways to make such an experience pleasant enough so they can do it frequently.

You CAN learn to survive in the workplace!
A very interesting book. It has some nice examples of "real world" situations and real solutions.

Written by a neurotypical person.
I have only managed to read two chapters of this book and so far both of them have made me very angry. The book is written by a neurotypical person who admits to learning about Asperger's from books, websites and professionals - with no mention of learning from people who actually have Asperger's. The author writes as if we should just allow discrimination to happen because this is the "real world". They write that we must learn to interact in a way that makes NT people comfortable, with no mention of our own comfort. They write that "Neurotypicals have problems on the job too" which reminds me very much of the "white lives matter" and "not all men" sentiments. The tone of this book is patronising and the good advice in this book is hidden by the horrible impression that *I* have to fix everything and not be a bother to the poor NT people that have to put up with me. This book is often encouraging someone to condition themselves to ignore their own comfort rather than work with their colleagues to come to an understanding that benefits both parties. It acts like I must hide my neurodiversity from colleagues and have a "work buddy" to monitor me.There is some stuff in the book that is useful, but it is marred by the tone of the author and I can't get past that.

Excellent - Significantly changed my workplace
Wish I had read this book before I started working. Only was diagnosed with Asperger's a year ago after multiple failed jobs. At last I understand why I've been experiencing the issues I had at work as it explains the differences between how I view everything compared to my employers. It has various practical points on how to help yourself throughout the whole application process and actually being in work. Plus there is information for employers. I have started to apply various tips in the book. You should not expect the book to solve all the problems you have in the workplace especially as you can not change your employers overall view point & not all employers are willing to understand. The main downside of the book is that it is not aimed for the UK so some sources of advice is not relevant.

Well presented resource for both Asperger and other readers
I bought this book to help me find a way to coach with a client on the autistic spectrum and found Barbara's practical approach useful.
