Digitally remastered and expanded edition of this classic 1968 album from the Dutch rockers. American writer Richie Unterberger called them "not just the finest Dutch group of the '60s, but the finest group from a non-English speaking country, period." Holland's Outsiders have a posthumous reputation that grows and grows. CQ was a benchmark, one of the greatest albums of the late '60s from anywhere. As important as other belatedly-recognized classics like the Zombies' Odessey And Oracle, the Pretty Things' SF Sorrow and the Kinks' Village Green Preservation Society, CQ was made by a band with their own identity. Classic! RPM.

MISFIT in HAPPYVILLE
First time I heard an Outsiders record was the 45 RPM single Touch from 1965. A song which sounded rather raw and unpolished compared to other singles that I listened to like The Beatles' Help, or even the Rolling Stones' Satisfaction. I was too young to totally appreciate that early garage band sound and forgot about it until I heard it again in the early eighties. Turned out that sound was rather ahead of it's time.In 1968 their album CQ was released and I had not heard this one until a few years ago. Their music has a similar garage rock vibe but this time infused with more experimental guitar sounds that may have been influenced by the psychedelia that ruled rock music at the time. Again, ahead of it's time. Great album.

KILLER REISSUE FROM 2011
this is an awesome reissue from a few years back of this classic dutch psyche album that includes a host of great bonus tracks, i actually have a reissue of this classic from 1968 on cd from around 1999 or 2000 but the bonus tracks on that edition where different then the ones on this 2011 edition, the remastering on here is awesome, the rpm label is great at this and the booklet is very informative and also includes some great photos, highly reccomended for fans of 60s garage rock, psyche, pop or even trippy acid rock, these guys where probably the best thing next to Q65 in the netherlands in 1968 maybe cuby and the blizzards to but then again they had more of a blues sound regardless this is an awesome reissue, i cant say enough about this!!!!!!!!!

A MASTERPIECE
Who is this? When is it from? Only once in a while do you discover an album as different as 'CQ' by the Outsiders.I'll position it along side 'Cyborg's Revisited' by Simply Saucer, 'Burning Blue Soul' by Matt Johnson and 'Spirit of Eden' by Talk Talk. No, it doesn't sound like any of these but like them, CQ does manage to sound completely off the chart and wonderfully out of time.I actually played 'wish you were with me today' to several friends saying i'd found a leaked new track from Django Django. and 'the bear' would easily be the b side. Everyone believed me, no one believed it was actually by a Dutch band who recorded it in 1968.There is a lot of different approaches the Outsiders on this album but it's clear that everything was the product of being isolated in the studio. Originality drips off album and fizzes with strange and unique songs, lyrics and production. An album to get lost in, you will like me wonder - how was this album not totally massive, its that consistently amazing. Even the much highlighted slightly prog structure of 'prisonsong' is more Tarantino that King Crimson. nothing here is filler. The sleeve is a Pop Art classic, again obscuring when? were? who? And the band members names read like rock gods from another planet, Wally Tax on vocals and my favourite - Ronnie Splinter on guitar...CQ is a completely essential addition to any music collection.

The Outsiders aus Holland
Yeah!
