Do-It-Yourself Stitch People (2nd Ed.)

I've been stitching on and off for 15 years and nothing has gotten me more enthusiastic about cross stitching than this book. Not only does it have a lot of unique ideas for portraits, it's an excellent source for stitching in general. I learned some new things that have vastly improved my ability. Beginners and experienced stitchers alike will love this book. My favorite part is the fact that it is spiral bound. Much easier to read and reference while you're stitching if needed. I was most impressed by the inclusion of crutches and wheelchairs. The website is also an excellent resource for free patterns (though some on the website are in the 2nd edition) but they also have a wide range of more niche patterns available for purchase. The possibilities are endless!

This book is fantastic! Especially for beginners, as other reviewers stated. I’m fairly new to cross stitching so this has been a really great resource in sizing everything. It has several sections- layout of a portrait and layering your subjects, Men’s Hair- facial hair- outfit ideas-shoes, woman’s hair- body shapes- outfit ideas- shoes, children and proper sizing for their age, pregnant women, babies in different things (cribs, strollers etc) hair wraps for peole without hair, accessories, wheelchairs, honoring deceased family members, animals, and a brief section on lettering. It also shows several ways/stitches to make hair textures. It’s pricy but worth it in my opinion (especially if you’re a beginner.

This is a great source for creating a wonderful and personalized cross stitch pattern.

I bought one used, still in great condition, barely even looked used. Good and easy instructions. Some many templates!

I love this book!I have been cross stitching for over 25 years so I’ve purchased plenty of books of designs. This one is by far the one I’ve loved most. It makes designing a family portrait super easy, and takes all the guesswork out of it.I’ve seen other reviews saying it’s not worth the cost and that all additional patterns should be free after you purchase this book, however I do not agree with that. All the work is done for you! I will gladly order any edition all expansion books Lizzy offers.Hats off to Lizzy for such a complete, easy to follow guide. She even allows you to use her book designs to create portraits and sell for profit! Not many designers allow that.

Stitch People is a very fun and thorough book. Want to stitch your family or some other people? This will tell you how, from how to choose figures and various attributes, to how to make fine details such as hair. There are pets and accessories, as well. It took me two days to stitch my family of 6 (three people and three pets) from designing and placement to execution. There are some cute examples at the back of the book to see what some others have done. There is also ongoing support on the website and a facebook group. I could see using this book for a lot of different projects. Well worth it!

All in all, a good book,. You will likely need additional books if you want a complete collection. The book is very thorough in general appearances, shapes, and colors of a multitude of people. It also covers a few simple activities but now I want/need 😁 the other books. Probably the plan all along. 😇

This was totally worth the money! I was pretty hesitant at first, I know how to cross stitch—why would I need a book to show me how to stitch people. But, I took the $60 plunge and it has totally paid off! The details of the different kinds of stitches, how to layer people, varieties of hair and how tall to make an adult vs. a toddler.. the list could go on forever with how many insightful tips this book gives. Its fantastic coaching you through a stitch portrait, I’ve already made 3 and it’s only been 2 months. Go buy this, you won’t be sorry!

I'm an experienced cross stitcher and I still find the book extremely helpful. I've already made a few family portraits as gifts and the book is easy to navigate, the patterns are easy to customize, and the spiral binding makes it easy to hold in your lap. The fine details like plaid shirts or scarves turned out beautifully. The pets are perfection and easy to alter to look like the real thing. I'm really pleased with the book. Worth the price and the author is quick to support and provide free extras when you register the book too.

This book is a really great tool if you're interested in doing family pictures for multiple people. I think this book is really geared toward people who intend to sell these because the price is pretty prohibitive and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. This was a birthday gift because I just could not justify spending that kind of money.That said, this book is a fairly extensive for the price. In addition to the book, there are some freebies on the website and a Facebook group. There are tons of choices in the book, it shows ways to adjust height, body type, a ton of hairstyles, sizes for children and babies and even some pets.I feel this book is for intermediate and advanced cross stitchers. It might seem simple when you look at the finished piece but there's a lot of pattern creating you have to do on your own. If you're an ambitious beginner, go for it, but with the high price and the pattern creating, you may want to wait until you've got more experience and you're sure cross stitch is something you intend to do frequently.Another nice thing is that the website offers additional patterns for things like holidays and religious wear (for an additional price). There's a soon to be released backgrounds book that should really make for some great stitch people designs. I have yet to create my first design using the book because I'm waiting for the release of the backgrounds book but I have used the character sheets to create the people I plan to stitch.All told, there's definitely tons of bang for your buck and I would certainly recommend it if you feel like you'll be creating lots of stitch people and absolutely recommend if you're looking to offer to create and sell these (something the author is OK with and actually encourages).

This book is great. I'm glad I added it to my collection and can't wait to try out making gifts for my friends and family. Lots of ideas, and the Facebook group is so wonderful for ideas and to see what people have come up with.

A fun book though over priced. For the cost I shouldn’t have to buy the extra books (eg careers, animals etc). The colour reference charts are nice to have, and the hair style patterns are useful. Not a must have book but it is fun
