Not impressed with the author
Talked to this woman. My teen daughter was going to have therapy with her.First advice....Force feed my kid and punishment. How can you tell what my kid needs when you haven't even talked to her yet???Stupidly actually tried one day.... made EVERYTHING worst. Not all Teens are the same. A good therapist talks to them. Then comes up with the best path to help that particular kid. My kid have always been an honor student. At 15, she has a job. I am not a therapist. But I think she should try to get to know the kid a bit first. Work with them as to what they feel or think they can achieve in baby steps if need be. Starting with punishment and force feeding is a sure way to make them feel like you're the enemy and there goes the communication. And communication is key. To be honest, I stopped reading the book after talking with her. I wasn't very far in, so I can't judge the book really. Just the mindset of the author herself. Going with my gut feeling as it seems as a better option. As mom's you have to advocate for your kid. Go with your gut. Ask for advice from anyone. Try the ones you think your kid will respond to better. The ones you think you can achieve first. They need love and guidance, not dictatorship. Not sure if the book has better advice then what she gave me verbally....

A must for parents with children going through eating disorders
This book is definitely a must, and compliments "Help your teenager beat an eating disorder", and "Eating with your anorexic".The Maudsley approach is great. This book reminds us not only of the Maudsley approach, but as well guides us in understanding it and including the whole family. It helps us understand as well what has happened to the body of the anorexic child, and helps us learn about all the important aspects of nutrition, nutrients, and the body.Thank you Marcia Herrin

EXCELLENT REFERENCE BOOK
I chose this rating as this book demonstrates "real" experiences that parents and anorexic children go through. Something that registers in our experience. It gives great insight into the reasons/outcomes of eating disorders. I found myself reading almost all of it when I received it. I use it every day to confirm or deny my feelings and it has helped me to explain a few things to my daughter.

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW
This book is a must for all parents with a child with an eating disorder. Only after understanding the disorder and the way it is influencing your child you are able to understand and help your child. In addition it gives insight in the disorder and relieves the stress you feel as parents. Please, don't hesitate and buy this book. It's so helpful for parents and inherently their child with the eating disorder !

Comprehensive coverage of a range of eating disorders
I particularly liked this book because it addressed Binge Eating disorder in more detail than other books. I have found it difficult to get good information on this aspect of eating disorders, most only mention it in passing as a related disorder to anoraxia or bulimia. This book had several sections where the particular problems associated with binge eating were addressed
