Sir Bentley and Holbrook Court (The Knights of Arrethtrae)

Review written by 16 year old boy: Sir Bentley is a heartwarming story about a young Noble Knight whose sole purpose is to imprison the Knights of the Prince. As he encounters more and more of these Knights, he sees that they are not this huge problem that his fellow knights and leaders claims they are. Seeing them and how they treat others with kindness, even those Noble Knights that persecute them, changes Sir Bentley's opinion about them he admits how wrong he has been to persecute them. Sir Bentley becomes discontented with his empty life and he begins to seek the truth of the Prince. On his way to a town he sees disaster strike, crippling a man and leaving his family destitute and with no means of paying the heavy taxes demanded in that region. Seeing an opportunity to help just as the Prince would have, he stays with the family and learns how to work the fields and tend to the animals. While staying with this family he meets the Mercy Maiden, a truly repulsive looking girl with the heart of diamond. The Mercy Maiden helps the families that are suffering from being taxed or are diseased. He learns to love the selflessness of the Mercy Maiden and wants to defend her from evil. She teaches him about the Prince and living a selfless life. Unlike the "Kingdom Series", the "Knights of Arrethtrae" does not tell allegories of bible stories, rather it takes lessons and individual verses and tells a story based on that. Sir Bentley shows the values of looking beyond someone's dirty rags and seeing them as they truly are; not a peasant or farmer but as fellow knights and ladies. Sir Bentley is a beautiful story that motivates and encourages me to see what I can do to help those around me and to always spread the good news.I only use 5 stars on books I buy for my permanent library. The second book in the Knights of Arrethtrae series was very exciting. It's about Sir Bentley who goes from the life of a wealthy man's son to a hard working peasant, by his own choice. While trying to search out the truth about a stranger (the prince), he ends up in the city of Holbrook where evil is running rampant. He also meets the mysterious Maiden of Mercy, named Eirwyn, who is trying to lessen the suffering of the citizens of Holbrook. A lot is in store for Sir Bentley in this story including a vicious sea monster and a cruel Dark Knight. You don't want to miss it.I really enjoyed the spiritual application and characters found in this book. The twists were unexpected and made the book all the better. I also had a hard time putting this book down and know that you will too, if you give it a chance. I recommend it to older kids and teens that need encouragement in the faith of Christianity.

The "Knight Series" and the "Kingdom Series" are both FABULOUS book series and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them for all ages of readers. Some of the words the writer chooses to use do require a certain level of knowledge and understanding. The stories are absolutely wonderful and hard to put down. Mr. Black is a wonderful writer with a gift for story telling. There is never a dull moment in his books. It is amazing the character lessons he is able to portray in the Knight series. A truly wonderful set.

Engaging, honorable and brilliant storytelling! The series hooked our entire family, even my non-reader! Who by the way is now an avid reader after this phenomenal series. Free of non-favorable scenes, language or magic, these books draw you into another time, drawing beautiful pictures of Gods Word and His truth and how to apply it in every day living. Highly recommended reading.

Chuck Black is a great author! Love all of his books. So much fun to have the Bible come alive through these stories.

These are incredible books! I liken them to CS Lewis Narnia series. They are that good. Im amazed that they are not better known!

I personally haven't read this book myself, but after reading other reviews, I decided to buy a couple in this series for my son. He ended up loving them so much he kept on reading them again and again, and has urged me numerous times to get him the rest of the series!

My son started reading the Kingdom Series in 4th grade and has really loved this series even more. He finished the first 3 books in the series in 3 weeks. They really resonated with him. I will be buying the next 3 books in the series.

The book was a great way of putting Bible scripture into awesome mid evil day format and the spectacular description of fights captivated me through a whole day of reading the only thing I didn’t like is how he was near death so many times and survived the did it in a good way though with only 2 times still a bit on the hard to believe side but that is what the call to serve the prince is hard to believe it based on pure faith I also felt there was a bit to many twist at the end it was brought up once again good and it made sense once you connected the dots that was more a mild one I would 100% percent recommendSeth Kersch 16 years old

Like most all of Chuck Blacks novels, this book was very thrilling from the very beginning!I love books that get you hooked from the start and out of most authors Chuck Black is amazing at this! He is also very good at putting Christian background into all his novels without making the novel to ‘boring’ or full of long ‘lectures’.He’s a great author, with interesting and fast paced novels; keep up the good work!

Great Book...Must read!

Great read for younger kids. Will buy more in the series.
