The author attempted to do something very difficult--bring an awareness and basic understanding of the connection between the kabalistic tree of life and tarot cards to the beginner--which most either don't know about or don't attempt so for that, I give him props for trying. He even mentions pathworking and a few other things that are traditionally very "mystical" and advanced and written in a language that feels like you need a decoder ring. This is actually the reason I purchased this book is because I was looking for a book to bring me to the "next level" of my working with a set of guided instructions on the paths and associations for a deeper esoteric understanding of the cards. It is, after all, a "step by step" guide. Unfortunately, this book was so very basic and elementary on these subjects and the subject is so complex that it simply doesn't do it.I do believe, however, that for the beginner, going through the book and actually doing all the exercises for each card would be very beneficial. For the absolute beginner, however, I think the best possible way to learn the tarot is through simple practice, repetition, and practical exercises as prescribed in Dusty White's book, The Easiest Way to Learn the Tarot - Ever!! If looking for a more mystical (magickal) connection to the cards, you may want to try other sources on "magick" as any good read in these areas will cover some tarot knowledge, but I myself am back in the search for a modern, clean resource on the subject with practical exercises.

A Comprehensive Look at the Tarot
Balanced and informative, this book is for both novices and old hands at Tarot-card reading. Nevill Drury takes his readers through the history of the cards, their links to various spiritual practices, and their uses in readings and meditation. Each card is illustrated, described, and interpreted in both its positive and negative aspects. The interpretations then form the basis of a series of introspective questions. The latter part of the book provides instructions for various methods of reading and suggestions for meditation. Bottom line: this is a workbook, which can be used to guide readers to better understand the Tarot and themselves. However, readers can choose the extent to which they follow the exercises or buy into the rationale. There are a number of Tarot books out there, but this one should appeal to almost everyone who wishes to know more about this ancient practice. Check it out. See if it works for you.

The Tarot Workbook
There is interesting information here for beginners. I was looking for the symbolism of pairs, the numbers and suits, for example. There are sections revealing info that is not usually in beginner books but it is all concise and simplified. I keep it as a reference for these things and re read it. Thoughtful overviews, beautiful layouts so you easily get a sense of the meanings of important things with Information easy to find. I downgrade this book because the meanings contained for the cards do not have meanings significant to my queries. I try to use them but usually turn to another source to get the gist of the reading.

Tarot Workbook: A Must For Any Level
Tarot Workbook by Nevill Drury is one of the finest Tarot books I have ever read -- and don't let the "workbook" title make you feel like you did doing your least favorite subject homework in high school. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned professional, this book is an easy reference and clearly lays out the Tarot while still being an inspirational spark for the pro. From it's explaination of the various suits, the court cards, and the connection to the Qaballah, the Tarot Workbook brings an easy to grasp light to the Tarot and also a depth and new insights for anyone at any level. Don't miss this one ... mine has been so joyfully used the binding has been worn out and various sections of pages will fall out if I'm not careful. This book goes almost everywhere with me.

The Tarot Workbook
Interesting book that anyone interested will learn something new from. It's not a "workbook" that you can write in though, you need another notebook to go along with it. There's just not enough room in the book itself.
