Kimberbell Designs: BROOMHILDA's Bakery Embroidery CD & Book KD804

This booklet is so poorly organized, the directions are a mess. Not professionally formatted, difficult to work with. Some of the directions are on the CD, some are in the book, poorly thought out. There are also several quality issues that I am uncovering with the files/designs. For anyone that would like to use this to make the quilt, BEWARE, the quilt blocs for this quilt (not the applique blocs but the traditional pieced blocs) are NOT DONE IN THE HOOP, however, that information is not disclosed. The marketing for this suggests that it is all done entirely in the hoop, NOT SO!These are the issues I've uncovered so far:1) The "bonus designs" are supposed to be the same designs from the quilt but with different finished dimensions so that you can have the opportunity to use them on different projects other than for the quilt. However, after using one of them I can see that they did a poor job of developing these. The smallest version of the cupcake for example has such thick heavy satin stitch on it, it looks silly (1/4" satin stitch on a cupcake that is 3.5" tall just looks rediculous). So these are essentially not usable (unless you want to spend a lot of time using embroidery software to redigitize these files which is just not worth it in my opinion).2) The spiders that are supposed to be dangling from the various applique designs are stitched out separately and attached with flimsy bakers twine, not part of the applique/embroidery file/design.3) There are 3 quilt blocks used in this quilt but 2 of the 3 are pieced using traditional methods, not done in the hoop (why not disclose this information on the product listing page for this on the Kimberbell website?) There is a "string bloc" done in the hoop as a bonus project (table runner) but the way it is used in the table runner is poorly thought out.4) The candy apples and lollipops have a hand drawn look to them which is really odd as the rest of the appliques clearly do not have a hand drawn look so the designs for the appliques are very inconsistent.5) This company clearly wants to sell you more product by not preparing their embroidery files so that there is a final stitched line that you could use as a cutting line to square up the quilt blocks with (they recommend that you purchase their "orange pop" rulers. A few of the blocks are designed with a final stitching line/cutting guide (presumably because the required finished size does not match up with the size of their rulers! How greedy can you get?!6) Some of the applique blocks have some interesting stitching/embroidery details to them which was great, but not all the applique blocks had these features, literally some are just throw away designs, others are worth using.There is just no way I would have ever purchased this booklet if I had seen it in the store and inspected it myself. It did seem like the company was trying to hide something by not providing many close up photos of this quilt. You would think with all the special products and features that were used in it that more close up photos would have been used to promote it. There were clearly many short cuts taken to get this product to market, so rather than take the time to make it right, they just decided to sell it as good enough.Very disappointing. Since I ordered fabric and supplies to work with these files I'm just going to use a few to salvage this whole debacle and lesson learned, don't purchase another product from this company again.

I bought it for the smaller projects in the back of the book. They turn out very cute. Kimber bell does not have a double tack down stitch like some other companies. I do sometimes run the tack down stitch twice which helps. That is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars.
