Good photos, nothing new if you own the prequels
This is a half-size book in the "Seeing ..." series. It has beautiful up-close photos of trees, leaves, and seeds. Each section of the book begins with a few pages of single columns of very simplified descriptions and discussions of leaves, flowers and cones, fruits and seeds, buds and leaf scars, and bark and twigs. There is almost as much information in the picture captions as there is in the manuscript. For example, the author begins the leaf chapter by describing it as "the shortest leaf tutorial in the history of the world." Although this is a fascinating book on its own, if you already own "Seeing Trees" and "Seeing Seeds" don't bother buying it. "Trees Up Close" is largely an abridged rehash of these two books, and even has the same or extremely similar photographs in it. It does, after all, have the same photographer. I wish somebody had said that in a review before I bought it and I would have saved my money. At least I bought it second-hand.

Perfect "Coffee Table" book
Yes this is a small book for the coffee table (being a condensed version of another book by same authors), but packed with gorgeous pictures and more information about trees than you would expect.

Awesome book!
This book is absolutely amazing! Pictures of tree seeds and flowers we don't often see on high branches. I love it so much I got 2 more for my grandchildren!

Awesome book, large beautiful photos.
The photos in this book are amazing! I purchased this for my 5th grade son and the pictures are very complementary to other tree guides, as the photos are larger, showing more detail of bark, twigs, flowers and fruits at different phases, and also does a fair amount of comparisons which seems to make learning easier. Some of the trees included are Red Oak, White Oak, Red Maple, American Sycamore, American Beech, Sweetgum, Tulip Poplar, Black Walnut, Black Cherry, Gingko, American Elm, Flowering Dogwood, Black Locust and several more.

Beautiful Book
This is such a beautiful book! The photographs are amazing and I learned so much about trees from this book. I bought the book to use for teaching my grandsons to identify trees and their beauty, and to be able to identify the uniqueness of each tree. I highly recommend this book as a learning tool and as a beautiful book to display.

Incredible photography!
The close-up beauty in these photos makes this book practically a religious experience, Each photo is expertly backlit. What care was taken with each shot! Fascinating descriptions & info about each tree makes them more than just a coffee table book.

If you have purchased the authors book "Seeing Trees".....
This is a beautiful small book packed with amazing photographs. I previously had ordered "Seeing Trees" by the same author and was looking for more of her books. I found it repetitive. Wonderful and beautiful book if you have not already purchased "Seeing Trees".

I am more than pleased, I am grateful for the layout
This tome is a veritable tree trunk full of information on trees and their stages in life. It is helping me immensely as I attempt to identify and transplant certain species on my property. I am more than pleased, I am grateful for the layout, the photography, and the explanations that are easy to read and understand. Publisher must be very proud. Susan
