If you open them and expect instant heating, you'll be disappointed. If you open them about 20 minutes before expecting gradual heating up, you'll be delighted. They gradually heat up when left alone. If your hands cut off the air flow to them, they don't heat up as well. They sure feel good in your pockets walking in cold and you stick your hands in your pockets. Or in your gloves.
