Writes Duel Layer . Great Portable Drive
The DVD external drive does everything a high end internal OEM drive would do. It reads & writes to multiple formats +/- RW; is able to Write DUEL Layer which my own laptop doesn’t do but is a nice added feature because of the larger size files & operating systems. I can make a very large backup on one cd instead of 2 or 3. I also like the nice compact design. The sub cord is stored embedded on the bottom of the drive which Keeps it all neatly organized. I used to have to wrap a cord around my old drive to store ( or if I didn’t, I couldn’t find a cord when i needed). Glad it has updated USB 3.0. Very little bit of speed helps when I’m working on a computer. The drive feels fairly solid and not flimsy.Just wish that you didn’t have to open drive through computer only. Wish the button on the front of drive opened it. ... maybe it’s supposed to but mine doesn’t

Not bad honestly. You pay for what you get.
This product was pretty good. It works. You don't need a driver installed through a cd of 3rd party website. The only downsides is that once you insert the usb into your desktop or macbook it takes about 2-3 minutes to pop up in your drivers and options when you click your file folder or finder. once you put your cd in theres a strange like... humming or cd scratching sound like the device is reading your cd -don't worry your cd isn't getting scratched- but yea youll constantly hear that sound until you finish your cd download or movie. the sound is about a 3-4 out of 10 for the noise it makes.

Works but a bit light
Works as advertised. USB cable is a bit short and I found that the whole unit is a bit light. There is very little clearance under the drive. No noticable feet to keep it from sliding around. I have to hold one hand on it while I exchange dvd/cds and push back in the drawer with the other hand. It's too light to do with one hand. I guess I could put a weight on top of it to keep it from sliding around.

works well
I bought this for my coworker and I to play music. It took forever to get it to start. I couldn't understand the directions and then realized that I had to push the cd player in and then it would work. It was very confusing. Once we finally got it to work, it works really well and allows us to play our music on our computers. And there is no programming that needs to be done at all, so that's a plus.

Hard to write a cd/dvd
A bit hard to use the guide was not perfect. Even the online ones were not perfect or the product i got was bad i tried burning 2 cds but both were duds. All i am trying now is to use it as a reader.

Straight Forward to Use - Exactly What You Need
Wanted a straight forward DVD-RW drive now that computers are moving away from having built in drives. Works exactly as expected and straightforward to use.I'm especially fond of the fact that the USB cable fits into the frame of the drive. Now I don't have to worry about the cord wearing down from excessive twisting and wrapping. My Macbook Pro picked this up immediately and I haven't had any issues writing to CDs.

vert way to use
I was able to use this player right out of the box. It is very light and all I did was plug it into my MacBook and I was good to go. My main use is watching instructional DVD's and this little devise makes it very convenient.

Couldn't get it to work
Honestly, I've not gotten the drive to work on my PC yet. I'm not a programmer but an computer literate, and I'm having problems with this device. Needs a remote also.
