Adriano, Il Cane Di Pompei - Hadrian, the Dog of Pompeii (Italian Edition)

A good beginner's reader for a young child learning Italian (or English). Nice illustrations, and a good jumping off point for exploring the history and geography of the area where the story takes place. Adriano is a likeable character and it would be valuable to read of further adventures of the canine exploring different aspects of Pompeii where he meets up with different people and has a few adventures in future editons. As it stands, it's short; perhaps overpriced, but given the dearth of Italian readers for children, it's better than most of the other books available for this age group.

Very simple, straight forward story of a stray dog living in the ruins of Pompeii. A good tail to translate, re-read (repeatedly) and use to practice Italian. Book arrived as scheduled and in good shape. Publisher appears to have other books that could be used for the same purpose.

Adriano!!This book has both English and Italian translations so it is very easy to understand the Italian! Very good for Italian learners!

This story about a dog becoming a hero in Pompeii is delightful. It is written in both Italian and English, which is great for homes where one parent speaks Italian but the other does not. The intro to the book and the back of the book also include some history of Pompeii in both Italian and English. We've read this to our baby, but once a baby is mobile it isn't really for their little hands (it's large, with paper pages). It would be great for an older child though. Age aside, we love it.

I love this book. As an instructor of Classical languages, I can read only a little Italian. It's been a fun book to use in beginning Italian lessons with my friend, a clever instructor. Anyone young or old with an interest in Ancient Pompeii or the Italian language should try this book. A series of these books set throughout dozens of ancient sites in Italy would be fun.

The illustrations in this book are very poor and do not give any idea of what Pompei is like to someone who has never been there. The story is also not very interesting and is baby-ish while at the same time being written for children aged 6+. My son is 2. We speak Italian and English at home. He loves dogs and I was hoping this would provide a story with illustrations of Pompei that he could learn from. I am keeping it only because I think I may use it as homeschool material later, when I can supplement it with a history lesson!

Enjoyed it. Cute story in simple Italian for a beginner student. This was a little more difficult than Ottavia e i Gatti di Roma.

I am an adult learner of Italian starting from scratch. Any book is always going to be difficult. Don't be fooled into thinking this is a 'child's book'. The story is relatively simple and will make a child aware of (hopefully more curious about) Pompeii, and the vocabulary is relative to the topic of course, but the grammar and verb tenses are not in the slightest bit easy and although there is an English translation running along side, this does not always give an exact translation of the Italian. Sometimes there is a 'generalised' translation. Sometimes words are not translated at all. Nonetheless an enjoyable book.

Beautiful bilingual book, my 4 years kid loves it, suitable for all ages kids. I could not tell if it is more beautiful the story or the artistic illustrations. Ideal for learning any of two languages - Italian or English. Except of interest for history and cultural heritage (Pompei and Roman world), it helps to stimulate the sensibility for the abandoned dogs.
