Poor Engineering of Rod Lock Backing Plate
I really don’t like reading reviews that state “I haven’t used this yet, but!” So here I am making the same statement. The reel seems “fairly” well made. There is a minute amount of slack in the spool which I attribute to the twin drag system (perhaps). The reel is light, and comfortable to the hand. Can be easily palmed for those that like that method. The handle is of good quality and turns smoothly.I put 330 Yards of Power Pro as backing. I’ll be adding 300 yards of 40# Daiwa J8 PE Line on top. There is plenty of room for all of that line with room to spare. Line Capacity is NOT a problem. Here is the three star complaint. The reel comes with locking screws and a matching plate. The locking screws are factory amounted and appear to be either glued or epoxied in place ...all is well so far. However the locking plate simply doesn’t fit. By that I mean it is inappropriately engineered to clear the gear housing on the reel. I spent 30 minutes with a Dremel grinder and a flat file shaping one edge to clear the gear housing and fit the mounts appropriately. Very annoying ... there’s no way to twist, turn, or tweak the baking plate short of taking off metal.Bad engineering...
