Good hold
My husband loves this. It smells good and is very easy to use. Quality is good and lasts a long time holding his hair in the position he wants all day.

A great hair product brand.
This brand always delivers a great product,no matter what your requirements are. This paste gives a good medium hold with low shine to enable that casually tousled style. It lasts all day and washes out easily.Recommended.

Light-feeling control
I was suprised by some of the comments I've read on here.Firstly, you need the right hair product for your hair, which can be difficult to identifiy! I used to use Hairbond but found that as I'm increasing the length of my hair on-top, it was just too dry.I would suggest that this product is best used on medium length hair, but will also work well on short hair if you're not looking for the style to hold-fast in place. I have wavy, medium-length blonde hair, which does whatever the heck it wants unless I try and tame it. As such I like to get products that give me hold, but that aren't thick, don't look oily or don't 'dry hard' and are not "wet-look".American Crew's Defining Paste fits the bill very well. My hair looks 'effortlessly styled' with this product, and if I want to mix it up during the day, no problem, it can be tweaked around and you can run your fingers through your hair with it feeling nice and soft (and product free) - again, something that I like. This product will help make your hair look and feel thicker, whilst giving the appearance of you not obviously using a product.Oh, and I think it smells nice too!For best results (from what I've tested myself), use a pre-styling product on damp hair after washing and conditioning it (such as Kevin Murphy's 'Young Again'). Just run a pump or two of this stuff (or an equivalent) through your hair.Next, if you've got time and you're going for volume then blow-dry your hair (admittedly not to every man's taste and I personally never have time!), probably best on a high heat, medium fan (too avoid frizz / drying your hair out), and shape with your fingers / brush so that you're not asking the paste to do too much when you use it!Once your hair is dry or very nearly dry (if not blow drying, leave the pre-styling product to dry naturally for a bit - this is normally during my commute to work), get some American Crew Defining Paste on the end of your finger (pea-sized is plenty to start with!), mix between your hands and then used your fingers to style your hair as required. Et voila. You're done. You can always add a little more paste if required in areas, but don't start scooping it out and splatting it all over your hair.If you're then looking for a firmer hold through the day, use a small amount of good quality hairspray over the top (no point in using a poor quality hairspray after all this effort / expense - do that and run the risk of rock-hard hair or dandruff-looking flakes).

Don’t have enough hold.
Didn't fit the purpose. The product is very greasy and does not hold so well. It’s okay for some texture and low definition if that’s what you need.

Better than the blue for my hair at least
I previously used the blue American Crew product which is stiffer, but due to thinning hair I felt that product was too harsh on my hair and was pulling out what precious little hair I have!Switching over to this product, it's that little bit softer and easier to apply which is much better for my hair.A smallish pea sized dollop rubbed between your dry hands (and your hands must be dry) and then rub through your nearly dry hair after a shower, and style as you please.I find that even with wear throughout the day, come the end of the day, the shape is still holding and I'm able to reshape my hair to a degree. This completely washes out in the shower, so there's no product build up or need for potent cleansing shampoos. For reference, my hair is now fairly fine and sadly thinning, short length.

Excellent Product
Excellent Product with a beautiful scentI used to use the green version of American crew but I found it made my hair feel kinda hard so I decided to use the red version instead and it looks more natural. I have attached a Photo of how it looks but note I do need a haircut on the sides and I may have used a little bit too much.Overall I would highly recommend

Good product, but not for me
I am not sold on this product, it seems to be effective on some people I know that use it, but I have thin longish hair and require a really firm hold. After going through the instructions and doing exactly what was expected with the product, it seemed to hold my hair really well, but after a few hours I found the hold was no longer stable and adding more of the product made my hair look a little greasy. As for the product smells really nice. It's also really easy to use in small amounts which means it would last a fairly long time.As this wasn’t for me I will only give it 4 stars, but for other people I feel it would be a great product. If you have found this review in any way useful, I would be grateful if you could let me know by clicking the "helpful" button below :)
