Mosby’s Pharmacy Technician Exam Review

Great prep book!
This is great pharmacy tech prep book. It has a lot of practice questions after each chapter. Most of them are on exam. Easy to comprehend.

FOR A 4TH EDITION I WOULD EXPECT LESS TYPOS
The book is plenty, but for someone like me, the typos are hard to shake off. I haven't taken the exam yet, however, I've been a tech for a few years now, so I'm zooming through the pages. There is nothing wrong as far as the content is considered. I would say though (and my pharmacist agrees), I believe they go too in-depth for what a tech needs to know. Nonetheless, knowledge is powerful...***Update: I passed first time around. Still think the book was overkill lol. For the med portion they have MOAs which is the mode of action of a drug, I was reviewing with my RPH who was like "whoa, you need to know that for pharmacy school". I can see someone who hasn't been a tech reading this book and finding it helpful, but for a seasoned tech like me, it was way too much. I'm not dogging it though. I feel like a seasoned tech needs to maybe review this book for a few days, but overall practice your math. So maybe purchase a book with lots of dosage math instead if you've been in this game a while (newbies too). Sorry if this is long winded. This book is not bad but too much for the exam, overall study dosage calculations. Everything else, you can breeze by without going too far in-depth.

Access Code Issue
Book is decent- filled with information needed for PTCB. Probably has too much information that can be confusing. The access code finally worked after doing research. The link in the book does not go to the correct edition of the book so the access code would not work at first.

4th Ed: Specifically for new January 1 ,2020, test: Not ready for prime time
Revised from earlier 4-star review: 1. Poor response from company in correcting missing question answers; a "quick and dirty" errata was prepared but this was incomplete, and, as far as I can tell, the Evolve material is still not complete. 2. Poorly written. some pages are truly nothing but but bullet point sentences, without any coherence or care with making them part of a more unified whole; one page had 53 bullet points and nothing else. 3. So dense with unneeded detail for the basic pharm tech test that most students, I think, will find it stupifying. 4. Editing errors are still present and some questions have wrong or misleading answers in the keys that do exist. 5. Book was late in release, trying to get a head start on the 2020 exam, but adequate editorial care is absent. [Original:This remarkable text, amazingly detailed, could very well be your basic text for study for the new 2020 PTCE. But it is important to remember three things this fall in 2019. First, the Knowledge Domains have changed substantially for 2020, and if you are taking the test in 2019, this text may possibly not be the best review (for example, in the new test, the meds and pharmacology area has been greatly expanded). For 2019 Mizner's 3rd Ed may be a better choice. If you qualify for the tougher application standards for 2020 and plan to take the test then, then this text (and it is a text, not just a series of practice questions--although there are many of them) would be an excellent single source. Second, in the first printing, all the chapter review question answers were omitted. This has been brought to the attention of the Elsevier publishers and Mr. Mizner personally and is being corrected. But be sure what you get has the chapter answers. Finally, Elsevier has a program called Evolve, which includes a lot of supplementary online material. This was not available when I purchased the book, so even if you have a fresh access code inside the front cover, it may be some time before this material is available. If someone buys the book and finds the chapter review questions have no answers, the Elsevier Press now has errata sheets that include these answers. Should you get one of these earlier books leave a question or reply/comment, and I could help you get access to the missing answers.]UPDATE: You can now create an account at evolve.elsevier.com & then to the online Evolve Resources (you must have original access code on the inside cover of your purchased book). The heading containing the answers is called "appendices." You would be wise to bookmark this section, so you can access it easily. While the book has numerous practice exams, the online resources only contain 1 full exam, but hundreds of questions within the online chapter reviews. I raised my rating of this text to 3 stars, but I still feel it's just too packed with dense detail and literally thousands of bulleted points, with no real unity or coherence. I recommend Barron's new text (2019) following the 2020 exam guidelines (& costing about a third of Mizner--$19-- on Amazon). I think it would be wise to start with this and then, if you hunger for depth, buy Mizner's. Another 2019 test review book that I found really helpful is Bonsell's "PTCE Practice Question Workbook," also cheap and well-edited (all but the compounding questions will be relevant; PTCB covers this skimpily in the new test, because there is now a new totally separate compounding test).

Very Useful & Helpful, Glad I purchased this.
This book was full of information, making it totally reliable and definitely worth the money spent on purchasing it. It is full of practice exams and practice questions. There are at least 700 practice questions to help you study and the book is extremely well organized. The questions are challenging as well so definitely be ready to study. I would take some time to do so on a daily basis because it is far too much information to cram in. I have no complaints about this book.

Best edition yet
It was the best edition. I had gotten the 3rd edition but this one was a lot more helpful. It gives more details and better explanations. I read it twice and passed! The math portion isn't as great as I would've liked but overall I recommend!
