... in by the well done art style and the sweetness of the story
I was drawn in by the well done art style and the sweetness of the story. Then as I was reading along, I proof read all the books I download for my daughter to make sure they're okay, I saw the book was teaching how to count coins. I was throughly impressed with the system they used, I don't like how it was worded when it came to the parents. It made it seem that the father was more important than the mother and both parents should be equal in a child's eyes. Otherwise, I love the book. :)

Sorry author, I really am
Not a story I want to pass on to my Grandkids, I am sure there is some reason the author felt it sounded good to compare the coins to a family and value them accordingly - but I don't think it translates well when the males are both worth more than the females respectively and the coin of a different color is treated specially. I think the notion was meant well but I was more interested in real monetary values in fact. This book leans toward sexism and racism when thought through. Yeah - hard to think it could right? I mean it's a book about a piggy bank - but not really !

Not a book that represents our culturally diverse home that values all equally.
I purchased this a while back and wish there was an easier way to return it. I hardly write reviews but felt it necessary to write one for this book. I was hoping to find a book to help illustrate the value of money but found this book to be racist and sexist. The sentence “coins are like people because they come in different shapes and sizes” is accompanied by a stereotypical image of various cultures. The image here speaks for itself. It’s followed by pages explaining that males are worth more than females and adults are worth more than kids. We’ve decided this book does not belong in our home and hope the author rethinks the message they are trying to deliver.

Very cute book. My children enjoyed it. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the names were very confusing. When you have a child learning to read and both of the characters are close in name ( Maddy and Mamaw), it's difficult to differentiate the two.

Cute
my two year old enjoyed this so it's a winner. book is geared toward older readers but teaches you about money and funny enough- acceptance of people that are different from you. sweet message that will hopefully go far in this often hate filled world.

Ugh
This book seemed cute enough until I got to the section where they start equating coins with people. The coins equated with males are worth more than the coins equated with females and the coins equated with adults are worth more than the coins equated with children since apparently in the author's mind it's obvious that males are worth more than females and adults are worth more than children. The quarter is the papa coin "because he is worth the most" while the dime is the mama coin because "she is worth ten cents, which is less than Papa Coin." The nickle is the brother coin and the penny is the sister coin since apparently children are worth less than adults and of course girl children are worth even less than boy children.

A Excellent Children's Book, Filled With Marvelous Art
This was a pleasant surprise to read to my niece. All of the illustrations in this book were fantastic. The story was perfect for young children. The author did such a well job writing the book. The illustrator Mindy Liang just did a phenomenal job! The pictures alone were enough to buy. I can not wait to pick up the next book. Keep writing Kathy Mashburn! Mindy Liang's drawings are what truly sets this book apart!

My daughter loves Feeding Piggy
This is a very cute story and is a great way to encourage your kids to save money. My daughter received this book and "Jilly Loves to Pretend" for Christmas gifts and she loves them. The illustrations go well with the story. I have recommended others and hope to see more books from this author soon.
