Easily his best work. Challenging to read aloud but the cadence is rhythmic enough to knock out any small child by the time the Lorax pulls himself up by the seat of his pants.

This is a heartbreaking and amazingly resonant story of how individuals can destroy the beauty of the world. It should be a must for all adults and children. Our child has taken it to school and it has become extremely popular with the teachers and other students. Beautifully written, beautifully illustrated. A tale for our times.

This is a nicely pitched book with the aim of getting our little ones to have a responsible attitude toward trees.They so often seem to get trashed as soon as they are planted, in current townscapes.Children nowadays rarely seem to be taught at school the important part that trees play in cleaning and replenishing the air that we all breathe - a fact that makes each and every one of them worthy of our guardianship.It was written in fairly straight-forward language and was easy for my 6-year old grand-daughter to digest. We both enjoyed it!

The Lorax quickly established itself as a bedtime favourite in our household. The message is clear - look after the environment. Like all Dr Seuss books, especially the more involved stories like this, they are a true pleasure to read. The words, the rhythms, the rhymes. Of particular note in the Lorax are the illustrations, which are vibrant, colourful and polished. Highly recommended from the age of around 2 and half up, especially if you child enjoys listening and is eager for more advanced stories. Can be read out loud in 5-15 minutes depending on how fast or slow you choose to read.

I bought the book because I heard about the new film in 2012. Used it with my year 5 class, first read book and discussed it. Then watched the first part of the video and the class were full of it... A great discussion ensued over why the film would start so differently and we moved into a 4 week unit of exciting and stimulating topic work on report writing, persuasive writing, research into the environment and the destruction of the rainforest .....

Everyone should have this story read to them at some point in their lives. Doesn't matter when. Now is good. It's basically about sustainably harvesting, and protecting the environment. Read it to your children. Get them to develop responsibility for their countryside. Then read it to anyone else you know. Seriously, they will love it.

I could not be more disappointed in the publisher's choice to drastically alter this story for this publishing. I purchased this book for our son and hoped to receive the same story I had been read as a child, but huge chunks of the narrative have just been heavy-handedly deleted, along with the lovely illustrations which once accompanied those sections. Many of my favourite moments of the original are altogether missing, and the characters and story have lost so much of their texture and personality, it's a terrible shame. It should be more clearly stated on this page that the book is abridged. Not only abridged, but abridged much to its detriment I'm sad to say.Furthermore, what illustrations are left have been awkwardly and often clumsily cropped into new dimensions, cutting out masses of Seuss' original drawings and generally messing up what used to be lovely balanced and detailed compositions. If you're buying this book for the art as well as the story, you should know that this book just wrecks the half of the illustrations which haven't been cut out entirely.Please find yourself a complete copy and experience this book the way Dr. Seuss intended. I'm horrified to imagine what the author would think of this blundersome hack-job edit of one of the great children's masterpieces.
