JET 8-Inch Bench Grinder, 3450 RPM, 1/2 HP, 120V 1Ph (Model JBG-8)

I ordered two based on other reviews and the sale price that was offered. My goal was to replace my current grinders with ones that had a dust collection port. They arrived packed well in a box with thick styrofoam inserts. The eye shields and tool rests had to be assembled. The tool rests are heavy cast pieces, much better than some of the sheet steel ones on some grinders. Out of the box they ran smooth and much quieter than expected. When tested they seem powerfull and seem to hold their power well when put to the test. The dust collection ports and stone guard are a nice heavy cast pieces. They should work well with my dust collector. Overall I avery happy with the quality and operation of this grinder.

This Jet is so far ahead of the cheaper grinders, there is no comparison. Zero vibration, and lots of power. Very happy with this tool.

I needed a good grinder after I knowing better tried a 3/4 HP Harbor freight cheap grinder. You'd barely even touch the grinding wheel and the speed would drop off and the thing would stop. Not with this grinder. It gets up to speed quickly. And it's extremely quiet. Really surprised how quiet it is. And mine has zero wobble or vibration. So far so good. So I grabbed a horse shoe for some testing. This thing is amazing. I put a ton of pressure on the grinding wheel and it just chewed through the steel horse shoe. I'm sure it had to have slowed a little but honestly I didn't notice a RPM change. Or it speeding up when I removed pressure. No longer do I need to grind a little and then wait for the grinder to speed back up. This thing powered through even when I really applied some pressure to it. It was between this and a Baldor and I'm super happy I saved all that money and went with the Jet 1 HP 8". You wont find a better grinder and I'd be willing to bet it'll beat some of the extremely expensive grinders out there. I could not be happy with this thing.

Update: I received the second unit shipment in good condition, within a few days (hats off to smooth everything from Amazon). This time, the holes were drilled and tapped. The wheels were only ever-slightly out-of-round... for my piddly round-the-house stuff that's fine. I put on my new DeWalt wire wheel brush, but my install was very much out-of-round, so I simply need a moment to adjust it. Im very happy, particularly with the power (8A).I bumped up my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars.>>>Previous Comment>>>: Ok, so I read all the reviews and I ordered the Jet 8".Amazon handled the order well, and for my return, as described below. I expected wobble-wheels, and lo I got that on both - 1/8". The cast iron housings and tool rests are rough, but industrial. Now for the unexpected... the bolt holes in the right wheel guard were not drilled and tapped! I re-read the reviews... that was a new one apparently, so I thought I'd add. Also, the motor was slightly askew from the cast iron base. Now for the positives. I love the power 8A grounded, the "heavy duty", and the shields. This thing really whips at super-fast rpm once up and running (but vibrates from wobble). Takes roughly (50sec) to slow to a stop.I sent the entire unit back (courtesy simple process from Amazon), and I expect to receive a new one early next week, no hassles. I checked out Baldor, but I dont need perfection quite that badly as-yet. Maybe soon, but not just yet. Im still banking on a slightly better second new unit. Stand by.

Very Good Grinder for a small shop. Well built and out of the box very smooth running with no real vibration. Mounted on a medium sized cast iron stand and never moves or tried to walk off the spot when tested. Cast iron tool rests are a little small but since this is not an industrial grinder they are adequate for normal shop use. Will be attached to floor for actual use. Ordered from Amazon warehouse deals for some savings and came poorly repackaged but completely intact with all the parts. I have very little trouble with UPS and they did well with this very heavy item flopping around in a large carton. Although this item is only slightly more complex than an anvil, i really appreciate that the instructions/parts list were in two small books, one in English and one throw away in Spanish. i often refuse to even look at an item that has packaging or documentation in so many multiple languages you can barely tell what it is. This alone makes it a five star.

We switched one of our old Harbor Freight specials at the shop for this one. I was skeptical that it would be that much better, but this is a serious grinder. The wheels don't wobble, it's powerful as can be, and it's silent compared to all of our other grinders. The price is hefty, but will worth it if you are using it daily. We will be switching out all of our grinders for Jets in the coming months.Update 9/14We ordered another a month ago and it is working perfectly in our shop. They’re pricey, but we would happily pay double considering the time it’s saved us compared to cheap models.

This is the best built grinder I've ever seen. I'm a mechanic, and have worked in many shops. This is very well made. The tool rest are 3/8" thick machined parts. The stone guards are cast iron. Most grinders come with cheap stones that have to be replaced right away. These are pretty nice. One has a slight wobble. This is an expensive tool. But quality comes at a premium. I am very pleased. I am completely done with cheap products. Buy nice, or buy twice!

The media could not be loaded. Like a few others, I had concerns of paying this much for something that others found to be inferior to cheaper bench grinders. I am totally happy with this purchase. I have not had to do any balancing. All I did was move the coarse grit wheel to the left and put a wire wheel on the right.I then videoed how it starts and runs. Starts up fast and I could not ask for something smoother: Or should I say, I am very satisfied with how smooth it runs. As you can see, there is essentially no vibration. I put a cap screw standing on its head to illustrate how smooth this ran.I ground the head of my splitting maul and there was no bogging down of the motor. Would buy this exact same bench grinder if I needed a second one.

This grinder is a beast. It chews thru just about anything. Nothing slows it down. Starts immediately and comes to full speed within 1 second. Very quiet, practically no vibrations. A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. I have few tools from JET and they all are excellent in quality and durability.

The ball bearing shaft runs very quiet and there is no wobble in the stone wheels. Very good buy for the money.
