First of all, this is a great buy for everything that comes in the package. The sponges are all well-made and pretty sturdy. I've had others that cost quite a bit more and were of the same quality.Hair length is important. When my afro was bigger (around 8 inches at the center), I could use this to get the swirls. I just had to work in small sections and it took a LOT of time.I recently cut my hair, leaving the sides just over an inch, the back about half an inch, and the front & center top around 2 inches. The sponges work best on the shortest sections of my hair. For the top and the side, I guess the length is too short to be long enough and too long to be short enough. The sides of my hair are more 3b while the rest of my hair is just slightly coarser. The less coarse the hair, the less these sponges work.Right now. I can only do the shortest part of my hair and that is not cute! LOL I am going to wait to grow everything out just a bit longer to try again.The only negative thing I can say about the sponges is that the sides with the holes work great but the reverse side (with waves) are not effective and seem to just make a mess of things.
