Stranger Things Season 1 and 2 Limited Edition (Blu-Ray/DVD) in Collectible Faux VHS Packaging

There are a few reviews for this product that claim the purchaser received season 1 and 2 of Stranger Things on VHS format. I highly doubt this Netflix original series (2016 - ) was released on VHS. However these DVD/Blu-ray boxed sets are packaged in a very cool VHS-style box to match the aesthetic of the time period of the show. Most fans of the show are equally gripped by the story AND the nostalgia of the 80’s setting. The box set packaging is an homage to the outdated VHS format of our childhood. This is clear in the description of the item, but some, sadly, gave this awesome box set (of DVDs and Blu-ray Discs) a low rating thinking they received ACTUAL VHS tapes

So when I was reading reviews for these DVDs I kept seeing people saying they received VHS tapes. I want to emphasize foremost that these people were confused by the packaging and had not actually opened the box to see that there are really DVDs inside. I will say the packaging looks very convincing. I have not watched the series yet to be able to give an opinion on that, but I wanted to provide this information because I recall hesitating after reading some of the reviews.

Anyone who says this collection is VHS Tape needs to actually look at the item when it comes in. They are cases that look like oversized vintage VHS tape cases. VHS tapes havent been made since 2003. When you open the cases the bluray discs are on top. DVDs are behind a pull/fold out piece inside the case. Tons of extra collectibles inside. This is both season 1 and 2. Each season in seperate cases packaged together.

Fully ripped and transcoded. I use very slow / high quality encoder settings and use modestly higher bit rates (CRF 20 veryslow for blu-ray, CRF 18 veryslow for DVD on x265, 10240kbps 2-pass veryslow Blu-Ray, 2048kbps 2-pass veryslow DVD on x264) No need for pirate bay downloads or further streaming.

I couldn't wait to get this show, and I was glued to every episode. I watched each one at least two times each. Now I hear Season 3 Is completed, and cannot wait to get it. If you are into anything weird, scary and a thriller, you will love this one.

What I like about this is that the cases do look like the old VHS of the past. A good old retro feel to them. All the discs play fine. What's not to like is how the dvd's are set in the box. They are held in by foam rubber instead of what is standard in most blu-ray and dvd cases. They dislodged during shipment with no damage to the discs but they are impossible to put back in place and be help there properly.

We loved the DVDs. Binge watched them all in 4 nights. The retro VHS packaging was awesome, too. Loved the 80s effects in the show like the Tupperware, ugly socks, etc. Great buy. We really enjoyed it. Thanks!

We really enjoyed watching this show with our 13 year old daughter, who just started table top rpg gaming this year. It has a Stephen King feel to it, and will appeal to gen x gamers everywhere.
