Audio CD of Enid Blyton's "Fun for the Secret Seven", read by Sarah Greene.
This is an audio CD of Enid Blyton's "Fun for the Secret Seven", read by Sarah Greene. She has read the whole story, and very well. This was the last Secret Seven book that Enid Blyton wrote. I know some have been disappointed with this story, for there is no real mystery for the Secret Seven Club to solve like the ones they encounter in other books. Yet, different as it is, I enjoy this book, for while the Secret Seven children are not perfect we do see their basic kindness and their problem solving ability. The problem they have to solve involves an old man, Tolly, and the horse he loves, Brownie. Brownie's back legs have been injured, and the farmer, Mr.Dinneford, who owns Brownie wants to have him shot. Yet Mr. Dinneford wants to get as much money from anyone who buys Brownie as he can. Meanwhile that really unpleasant and mean farmer refuses to pay the vets fees and Tolly is faced with a huge amount he can't possibly pay. How can those vets fees be paid? How can Brownie be rescued from the unpleasant Mr. Dinneford? Can a safe home be found for Tolly - and Brownie? Leave it to the Secret Seven! That isn't all, though. There is Janets - and Tollys - exciting encounter with horse thieves as well.Though this book isn't a typical Secret Seven story it reminds me of some of Enid Blyton's other books for young children, like "The Four Cousins", where children raise money to send a couple of poor children on holiday. Though not typical, it is a real Secret Seven story and I do enjoy it! I would recommend it to any child who enjoys books about children who make impossible things possible - especially a child who loves horses!

Fun for the Secret Seven
People say Enid Blyton is dated but for me these are the books that started me reading seriously at about age 7, my husband too (we are 40). They have been a great success with our eldest son who also started reading them at age 7 and who still loves them despite now being halfway through the last Harry Potter at age 9. A fabulous read!

Feel good story
I liked it more importantly my kids loved it. This is not the usual Secret Seven mystery oriented book of the SS but more of a feel good story. it shows the SS in a light of their community. Partly how respected they are and partly what good they can do for others. I particularly like the way the book is written with children's attitude towards money. To them if they have it why not give it away to someone who need it more then them. The only real excitement comes in the last couple of chapters. This is a feel good story and a nice way to remember the SS in their last adventure.
