Fire Maple 'Star X2' Personal Cooking System is an Ultralight Compact Windproof High Heating Efficiency Camping Stove. The Fire Maple Star X2 is an integrated cooking system that combines both a high heating efficiency and windproof capacity. The FMS-X2 is an improvement on the FMS-X1 model and is also slightly larger. The FMS-X3 is the same as the FMS-X2 but has only 800ml capacity which the FMS-X2 has 1 litre. The FMS-X2 can fit a 230 gram cannister perfectly snuggly inside but the FMS-X3 cannot. The Star FMS-X2 cooking system comprises a heat exchanger at the base of the pot which improves the heating efficiency by approximately 30%, both reducing the time taken to boil water and reducing the amount of fuel required. The pot also comes with an insulated sleeve which prevents heat loss and further improves the heating efficiency of the system. Designed specifically for high-altitude use. Compatible with any Fire Maple brand cookware, pots and stoves.

It is just as good as a jet boil If not better
I love this product and cannot recommend it highly enough. it is tough it is light. Unlike a jet boil it has a fixed handle that is very strong and has never let me down ( i use it every day as i fish almost every day). The pot is also slightly shorter and wider than a jet boil making boil in the bag meals a better fit. As it is also around half the price of its competitors I think it a superior product. I also love the design pattern. The pot stand works well but like all gas stoves needs a separate wind shield when not using the fixed pot. I only wish these had been around 20 years ago for my D of E treks and camping days.

Just as good as the "main" brand
I bought this so I can have stop for a brew on my regular trips through the highlands, it is just the right size to not take up too much room on the bike, if using a smaller gas bottle the gas fits inside the pot. It boiled 1 liter in around 6 minutes at 7degrees.

This is not a Jetboil replacement
Sadly, you get what you pay for. This is by no means a Jetboil replacement. It's bulky (the size of my Jetboil Sumo). No protection for the base. I put my Sumo side by side on 2 new canisters and the Jetboil boiled in 2/3 the time. I'd also be concerned (given the previous JB didn't have this and had problems) in extreme cold this isn't going to cut it without a regulator. I'm going to leave this in my camper van as a backup, but it's not coming on the mountain. Yes the handle is nice, but I never needed one before... It's not a terrible bit of kit. It's light (NOT ultralight), the pot stand and base are nice additions but it's not going to cut it for me. I can fit my old JB .8 inside this completely.

Great value
Took this on a trek on the Southwest Coastal path and it was brilliant, nice quality and boils water for a brew really quickly- I timed 0.5l at 1m 23s 😊

Does what you expect it to
Works brilliantly. Boils water quickly and the cup/pan secure nicely to the stove top. It all packs down into itself including a small canister, big fan of the handle and the way it secures the lid when everything is packed away. The insulation isn't the best and I wouldn't want to use the pot to drink from unless it was below zero as it's a bit too hot to hold as a mug once water had boiled but then most people will use this to boil water and pour into something else so you've always got a clean pot to boil water in. Impressed with it so far, seems sturdy and does the job.

Well constructed and sturdy. Excellent alternative to more expensive systems
This stove is brilliant. Every bit as good as a Jetboil system, and in some ways superior. The cup shape is nice and wide and not quite as deep as others which makes it easier to cook up things like dried noodles. The folding stand make the whole thing very stable and the burner boils up a half litre of water in just a couple of minutes. I also like the locking cup handle which is really well constructed and along with the transparent lid forms a nifty little safety catch keeping everything safe inside the cup. I would absolutely recommend this product.

Just what i wanted
Works nicely. It all fits inside the 1 litre pot even with a 230g gas can. I like the extra pot stand adaptor option, which will be very useful for cooking. I wasn't sure about the plastic lid but I'm very happy with it. The stabiliser is a good design thought to help with uneven ground and gusty weather.

Boils water fast
I had been advised to buy another brand of this kind of stove but i love a bargain so set out to find out if there was a better more cost-effective alternative. The handle on this model as well as the inclusion of a pan adaptor and free titanium spork is excellent and is what sets it apart from its competitor. I've used this now on various camping and road trips and it can boil up 1.5 liters of water in a few minutes. You can store the gas cannster and all the accessories inside the pot and ot comes with a hand carry bag as well. Genuinely over the moon with this purchase.
