Suspected fake chip
I too suspect this cable has a counterfeit/fake chip ( I suppose it might be defective). I run linux and NEVER have an issue with programming/CAT control cables. This one works intermittently. It will work for a short time, then I'll get a disconnect notice in my software, hit retry and it will reconnect, but it keeps happening. I've switched to another cable and have no problem anymore. Im going to attempt to get a refund for this one I think, as it was not cheap as far as cables go.

The cable was delivered on time as promised. I connected it to my IC-706MKIIG and it communicates well with the computer.
