Winged Dagger: Adventures on Special Service (CASSELL MILITARY PAPERBACKS) Paperback – 11 April 2002

It is a pity that later versions of this book have been censured by publishers. Roy Farran wrote his book while in prison awaiting trial for the premeditated murder of a terrorist. He had been serving in Palestine with the British Forces (last chapter also appears to have been unacceptable to the later publishers) and is openly critical of the British Governments weak stand and lack of support of those whose job it was to implement its policies. I can understand his feelings well as I had suffered the same lack of support after 40 years in Government service! This is The Book to read for anyone interested in the early days of the SAS and is far better than later books by people too young to have known what real war is about.

Roy Farran starts his military service as a green officer in the desert and gradually becomes an all action and confident officer finding himself in many scrapes from being wounded and becoming a prisoner of war in Crete, escaping from a camp in Greece by sailboat to being one of the first member of the SAS dropping behind enemy lines in France and Italy, and becoming the most decorated SAS member of the war. Through out the book in all his adventures he was like a cat with nine lives as he came through with only minor damage.If you are interested in military history you will enjoy this book.

The book exceeded my expectations! Very good condition for an old book.

Great book for me as I have personal interest. Copy received from Bahamut Group was not in the 'Great Condition' that I expected, I would call it fair at best (creased cover, dogeared, broken spine, etc)
