Very doable for an 8-yr-old
I bought this latch hook project for my 8-yr-old daughter. The canvas is not stamped, but there are 10x10 gridlines. I know a lot of people are complaining about the design not being stamped on the canvas, but here's the thing: my daughter started out on a different kit that WAS stamped, but the colors and pattern on the canvas didn't always match up with the colors on the printed pattern, so having it stamped ended up being more confusing. I told her to just ignore the colors on the canvas and go by the pattern on the instruction sheet, and she found that to be much easier and more straightforward. Now that she's working on this unicorn kit, she's having no trouble at all working on a blank canvas. In fact, she has said that it's easier to work on because there are no colors on the canvas to trip her up. She started at the bottom left corner, as indicated in the instructions, and just goes across, row by row, coloring in the boxes she's completed with a marker as she goes along. I think this is a great precursor to counted cross stitch, which she eventually wants to learn how to do.As many others have noted, this kit does not come with the latch hook tool, so be sure to order a few (I say a few in case one gets misplaced). You'd think that something called a "kit" would have all the tools you need to complete it, but I think it makes sense that the hook isn't included. If you were to buy several of these kits over time, and they each came with the latch hook, you'd eventually end up with a drawer full of latch hooks. I'd rather buy a few than have a bunch that I don't need. The pattern and colors are very pretty. My only gripe is that two of the blues -- sky blue and dusty blue -- are so similar that you really have to look hard to tell them apart. They should have chosen more contrasting colors for those two blues. We pulled out all of the sky blues and put them in a ziploc baggie at the start of the project so that my daughter wouldn't have to stop and figure out which blue was which every time she pulled out a strand to use. Aside from that, though, this is a great project that will provide many hours of latch hooking happiness.

Wonder art Latch hook kit
I love the colors and had to use you tube to find out actually how to start it. You look at picture count the square. The white line are what you uses and looks like the blues lines are the base one problem is the blue line is the number ten line. There are 9white lines between the blue. The arrow up is ten the only way to do that is add your yarn to blue line. My problem is the canvas is coming apart make it hard to keep the yard in place. I have no idea what to do about it. This was brought last year. So please check all your kits before the 30 days are up. Going to try to work around my problem

Changing my review...it actually worked out
There's was no design drawn on the fabric which was disappointing initially, also no latch hook itself was included with the kit which I knew by reading the other reviews -but then I found out that you can purchase one at Walmart for under $2, which I did. I decided to make the most out this and followed the instructions, sorted out the yarns and crossed off each row as I got done on the color-coded grid thing. I guess it could be actually difficult and time consuming for some as you have to have patience and follow closely as the green/turquoise colors are very similar (make sure you sit some place where there is good lighting) but I decided to take this on as a mini-challenge. I actually took the time to follow the instructions and followed the grid and it actually was pretty fun. My daughter even decided to do some of it with me and she thought it was neat too but kind of lost interest after a couple of days. It only took a week to complete and looks nice, might even frame it and hang it above my piano!

Latch Hook: The Ultimate Stress-Reliever
I decided to try out latch hook as a way to de-stress, and it worked great. I work in a stressful job, so in my downtown, I sometimes carry that stress with me. It's hard to just sit down and relax. This project ended up being a great way to keep my hands busy and occupied while watching television or movies, listening to music, or doing whatever I'm doing. I'd done latch hook back when I was a kid, so it had been a long time, but it was just as easy as I remembered it: you wrap the hook through the netting, twist the yarn around the hook, and then pull it through. (Repeat the same process thousands and thousands of times!)At first, I was put off by the numbering system because I expected the design to be directly printed onto the screen. Now, they provide a grid with numbers printed on paper. This turned out not to be a big deal at all. Once I familiarized myself with how to read the grid (and how to mark off the rows I'd already done), I really sank into it the process. There was something about the tactile repetition that was almost like a meditation for me: it slowed my mind and let me relax. This is the perfect sized project for beginners. It's not too big or too small, and I like dogs, so it was fun to watch the shape appear. Again, I highly recommend trying this out of you're the type of person likes to keep your hands busy.

No hook, bad yarn
I got this for my soon to be 7 year old granddaughter as she had asked me to teach her latchhooking a few months ago when I had my old latch hook kit out and was working on it. Mine had a color stamped base so easy to use and she picked up how to use the latch hook pretty quickly. Well this kit didn't come with a hook which shocked me but thank goodness I had a couple hooks on hand so we were able to get started on it. The yarn is very poor quality - feels very cheap and is hard to tighten up once it's on the grid and loosens up pretty quickly. Also there's no color on the grid to guide you so this was confusing at first to her to have to use a grid to see where the colors go. She understands how it works; just frustrating. I'll pay more attention next time to the details of the kit information and to the reviews.

Cute kit
Very cute kit and good for beginners. May be a bit difficult for children as the design is not printed on the canvas so you have to follow instructions.

The yarn is very stiff
The pattern instructions were good, but they don't separate the colors. It is hard for me to decipher cuz the colors on the paper don't quite match the yarn.
