The updates are worth it.
The formatting is noticeably helpful. The updates in content and questions for the reader help to focus and engage. I use this book all year long in preparation for both classes and sermons.

Fine book, poor physical edition
I need to distinguish the text from the physical book edition. This physical edition is a disaster - paper so shiny you can't see the print, book so heavy and floppy you cannot hold it, binding so tight the pages don't stay open (and I rented it so did not want to crack the binding), size odd and heavy so does not fit in carrying bags, on small tables. I actually gave up trying to read it and bought another edition, used, much more readable. Total waste. The actual text itself, by Johnson, is an authoritative, well researched and profoundly thought through covering of the New Testament. Hard to know where to begin with this surpreme topic. Johnson covers exegetical and historical information without letting it drown the spiritual meanings. His thinking is far-ranging, deep, multilayered, and his facitlity with writing keeps the book as alive as its topic through many areas and chapters. I highly recommend

Informative
Great introduction to the symbolic world of first century Christianity. Johnson knows how to draw out different points of views and how historical research is important for understanding the New Testament.

Christology
Good book. Using it as a text book for a Christian Scripture course. So far I have only read a few chapters but Johnson delivers a good description of the setting during the time if early Christianity.

but good luck trying to cite a page for a reference ...
My review of this book is not on the content or the author, but about the physical book itself. The copy I received was flawed during publishing. The pages are crooked in the binding, and most all of the page numbers were impaired or eliminated when the pages were cut. The text reads well enough, but good luck trying to cite a page for a reference paper!

An Excellent Introduction to the NT
Despite coming from a different denominational background I have found Johnson to be a reliable biblical scholar who consistently produces quality books and articles. We use this latest edition of his NT Introduction as a standard text book in our theological college. Johnson engages with other perspectives but does not get bogged down in minutiae. Although he does not cite other scholars directly, Johnson includes helpful biographies at the end of each chapter under various headings such as 'Critical issues [in the relevant biblical book]'; 'themes' and 'commentaries'. Recommended for all who want to study the NT whatever their denominational status.

Great resource for anyone studying theology
I really like LT Johnson's style of writing. He writes with clarity and is illuminating, without being overly complicated or cerebral.

A New Testament must
This is a book by a man who is both an excellent scholar and a true believer. He offers many insights not easily available to unbelievers. The book is well put together with full biblical references making it an excellent resource for the future. It is a very useful guide to study at whatever level is required. It has a depth of scholarship that is astounding but is easily readable to most. I wish I had 'found' this book a long long time ago.
