Behrens 617P Painted Coal Hod

Ok - if you've found this product - you know exactly what you're looking for and this will likely fit the bill.A neighboring farmer had many of these when I was a kid in the late 1970s.At one time, they were in every flea market I visited.But like so many treasures of my youth - the heavy galvanized pails with the unique shape had disappeared while I was busy in suburbia.After years of complaints from my wife about using "ugly" Spackle pails (white plastic 5 gallon pails) I recalled the Hod and found it quickly on Amazon.This one is thinner than the Hods of my youth - but it's perfect and works as intended (no moving parts - so it isn't really that difficult to meet my expectations on this item.)More importantly - we have returned to marital bliss as the "ugly" Spackle pails remain in the garage while the new Hod has the spotlight on the fireplace hearth.It's also great for ashes and starter twigs.If you need something like this just order it... you won't be upset.

I do like the item and I use it for coals when cleaning the fireplace. I was a little disappointed in the fact that the logo that appears in the picture was not actually on the item I received. Would have been a nice touch to the appearance.

Did not come with shovel that is in the picture. It's one of 100s of ash cans advertised here...I chose it because I thought it was nice to get a shovel with it. The ad is misleading. Also it's worth about fifteen, not what I paid for it.

Hubby loved this bucket. It's nice and deep. We use it for our kindling and for clearing the ash out. It looks nice enough we leave it right next to the stove and don't have to hide it.

Was expecting something a little more 'old school' from when I was a kid and everyone had a wood burning stove of some kind. The one I received wasn't like that at all. Its made of flimsy metal and was packaged so poorly it was distorted from shipping. I bent it back into shape I am still disappointed with the product. In the end, it does its job...

This is came to me with a bent handle. Which is really too bad as otherwise it is great?

Just like in the picture, way sturdier than it looks. I forgot to take it off the rug in front of my woodstove for and hour, I was worried it may leave a ring in the rug from the heat but it didn't (Very grateful). Definitely worth the $20.
