This tea is an excellent bargain for the money that you pay and the amount of tea that you get for the price. The tea is vacuum sealed for freshness. Fukamushi means that the tea is a deep steamed tea. The deep steaming process of the tea imparts a more rich and flavorful tea. This tea most certainly has that umami flavor that many people are looking for in a quality Japanese Sencha tea. I've had many different green tea's and this is one of the better ones that I have tried. This is a high quality Japanese green tea. Very fresh with loads of rich umami flavor and a vibrant green hue to the tea. This tea is not as astringent as other sencha tea's that I have tried. I brew mine using 16 ounces of purified bottled water with 7 to 8 grams of tea. Brewing temperature should be between 160f - 170f. Let this tea brew between 30 seconds to just under a minute, I prefer mine at 45 seconds brew time on the first infusion. You can get about four infusions from this tea, with the second infusion being the most flavorful and the fourth being the thinnest infusion. Just what you would expect from a quality Japanese Fukamushi Sencha tea. Warning, it is very easy to mess up a fukamushi sencha by using water that is too hot or by brewing the tea for too long. As long as you follow the brewing instructions you will enjoy this product. If the tea is bitter then you have used water that is beyond the 175f threshold for this type of tea. If the tea is too astringent then you have brewed the tea for more than 60 seconds. One thing to keep in mind is that deep steamed green tea is very concentrated in flavor and contains lots of catechins. This is a delicate tea and using boiling water or brewing for more than 60 seconds will ruin this tea. For $58 dollars you get a pound of vacuum sealed, quality deep steamed sencha green tea. Sugimoto Sencha has become my new daily drinker. At the price I pay for this tea I don't feel guilty for having 4 to 6 cups a day. I highly recommend this tea to anyone that is looking for a high quality daily drinking Sencha tea.

This sencha is probably a pretty good grade in Japan, but it is as good as I've been to find in the U.S. after trying a bunch of different ones. I happily drink it every day.It is important to note that studies show it is key to steep green tea at the right temperature and for the right amount of time.The steeping temperature affects the caffeine level, astringency, catechins and L-theanine. In my experience, steeping a generous teaspoon of Sugimoto sencha at 170 to 175 degrees for a little over a minute in a 20 ounce mug is best to get a reasonable level of caffeine, avoid too much astringency and to get the best long, smooth feeling from the L-theanine without a dropoff from a caffeine high.Definitely buy an electric tea kettle that permits you to set the temperature to the degree or use a thermometer. If you steep the tea at 190 degrees for 4 minutes, for example, you will burn it and it will not taste or make you feel as good.Sugimoto sencha is good for at least two steeps. Tip: in the second steep I pour a little of the tea into the cup which makes it richer and eat it at the end for max health benefit.

I believe this tea is a healthful product and will continue to use it. It is also less expensive to use this loose tea than tea in bags; also, I suspect it has more health benefits than bagged tea. The reason I gave this a four star rating is that I'm not fond of the flavor, but I have never found a green tea that I like; this is no exception, but that will not keep me from drinking it daily.

Regular tea

I am no connoisseur, but I do enjoy tea from tome to time. I tried a few Gyokuro, a premium sencha from the local asian market, and some Chinese green teas all in the hunt for my favorite green tea and I found it here. It has a very nice flavor that is honestly kind of sweet and floral which is rare for a sencha. Honestly this has an even brighter fragrance than the Darjeeling that I buy and the flavor is very strong and bright, but not bitter. For me this checks all the boxes for value, flavor, and qaulitea!

Just got the bag from Amazon today.The tea is fine, and from a scale of 0 to 9 with 9 being the highest, I would rate this a 6.I like the taste, but it's also a bit harsh. Perhaps the water temp I used was a tad too high, and I will try again with lower temp.I think tea at this price range ought to be strong, yet smooth.

I lived in Japan years ago and came to appreciate quality green tea. When I returned to the US, I searched everywhere for similar higher grade sencha loose tea. Unless I went to a Japanese market, the products I found were only the lesser quality bancha or gen-mai-cha or other roasted, twiggy teas. This may be because very nice quality sencha tea leaves have a grassy, very "green" aroma and mild, soft taste--probably not too appealing to most American palettes who are used to stronger, blacker teas. I love this beautiful, wonderfully aromatic loose-leaf green tea and highly recommend it. If you're looking for green tea in silky little tea bags, check out the Kirkland Signature Ito En Matcha Blend (though the brand name doesn't seem aligned to something so esoterically appealing, the quality is amazing).

I bought this size of tea10+ times. I also bought this brand of different products many many times. I love this brand. They sell great products with great quality!
