Great boxset
I've watched the boxset before on TV so knew what to expect. Boxset well priced and well presented.

Gripping, haunting, stupid
How best to to describe this show? In short, it could be described as Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith's mid-way point between "the League of Gentleman" and "Inside No.9." The plot lines are ludicrous but absolutely gripping; the acting and co-stars (Dawn French, Daniel Kaluuya, Jason Tompkins, Eileen Atkins, Lisa Hammond) are brilliant; and the atmosphere is present all the way through. It is difficult to say whether this is primarily dark sit-com, black comedy or outright horror - perhaps it is all three amalgamated. Certainly, some of the images and plot lines stayed with me for a while afterwards, in particular the Silent Singer, which I'll admit scared the pants off me when I first saw it. It is certainly a very disturbing show, and anyone who is a fan of the League of Gentlemen and Inside No.9 will know what they are in for when they launch into this. All I can say is "brace yourself", because it is thoroughly absorbing, gripping, stupid, horrifying, hilarious, disturbing, thought-provoking, edge-of-your-seat nonsense from start to finish.Thank you Steve and Reece, you are brilliantly unique.

Great dvd
Been wanting to watch this for a while as had only seen League of Gentlemen and Inside No.9 and decided to treat myself to the whole series which includes the Halloween special. So far so good as I'm working my way through it and really enjoying it.If you are a Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton fan and follower this is right up your street!

As disturbing as it is hilarious
I can't praise this highly enough. When I first saw it on TV I was blown away by the sheer bizarreness of the characters and situations. Even the name "the witches of E-Bay" had me laughing. When this was broadcast the BBC had a brilliant set of websites to accompany it, and a similar level of effort has gone into the extras on this set. There are audio commentaries on all episodes as well as interviews and other features. My favourite is the alternative camera angle on the Hitchcock tribute episode - the one that is all done in one take. It reveals that the show does actually have one edit point for the terribly practical reason that the dolly on the camera didn't have enough power to last through a whole half-hour shot and shows how it was all done. It may all look smooth onscreen but just out of shot there are always people scurrying to move furniture out of the way or spray some fake blood. The biggest surprise of all was hearing the writers discuss the evolution of the series and the story arc. They said that when they were halfway through writing series one and had even started filming, they had no idea how it was goign to end. Seeing how well it all fits together and even how small details from series one are integral to series two, like Lomax's dislike for Tony Hancock, I had assumed that the ending for series two was firmly in mind wheile writing the very first episode. In fact I still kind of think that even after being told otherwise on the commentary. This is one of the most inventive series to have been made for TV in recent years and this box set really does it justice.

Yes, the Blu-Ray version also contains the Halloween Special
If you're reading this you probably already know that Psychoville was a brilliant TV series created by Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, so no need for a critical review, here - others are available on this page. But when I was buying my copy of the box set, I had some doubts about whether or not the Blu-Ray version would contain the one hour Halloween Special, which was broadcast between series one and two. Most of the reviews on this page were for the DVD version and the stand-alone Halloween Special disc was listed under the heading "Customers who bought this item also bought..."The good news is that if you buy this box set, you get every single episode of Psychoville, so you don't need to buy anything else. So if that's the only thing stopping you from investing in this box set, you can rest assured. For the record, there are four discs, as per the description. Series one has seven episodes spanning two discs. Series two has six episodes on one disc and the Halloween Special on the other disc. Plus commentaries that are well worth dipping into as well as some extras that are probably worth watching once.

Play All does not play all
Five stars for the series, but choosing "Play All" skipped episodes, so only three stars. I had seen the series on BBC's streaming service, which is why I bought the DVDs (terrific show - not a "horror thriller" as some reviews have called it, but a hilarious comedy about serial killers and a couple of troubled clowns). Watching the "Extras" after playing "All", though, alerted me to the skipped episodes. There were scenes that I remembered from the BBC but that were not in the episodes that I had watched. Not worth returning for such a minor flaw, but be aware of this potential problem.

Absurder schwarzer Humor vom Feinsten
