A decent shirasaya for solo training
For $65, this is a decent piece. Mine is very solid, and does not rattle in the saya, which is especially important with a shirasaya. My blade passed the paper cutting test. If you plan to be in a sword battle, or cut bamboo, this would not be the sword for you; but a decent solo training sword, or piece for a collection. I am dubious that this is hand-forged steel, and the hamon is artificial; but the sword arrived much sharper than most high-end swords I have swung. I don’t recommend partner training with this one. I took off a star because I don’t think the description is correct, as the blade is not straight, which is what is pictured in the product photo, and which is what I was looking for. Also, hard to believe this is hand-forged. I am not sure what modern rōnin expect for $65, but the sword I received was well worth the price. Mine is nicely finished, as well. If you want a katana blade shirasaya, and you can’t spend $$$ on it, this isn’t a bad choice — just don’t expect it to be a $500 sword.

This not a good sword it is not hand forged like they advertise ...
This not a good sword it is not hand forged like they advertise it as. It is made from a cheap pot metal and is piss week. I would not recomend purchasing this sword to anyone. The supposed clay temper that is visable on the side of this sword was done by a machine.

Decent buy for the price
For the price of this sword it is a good buy!Shortly after my purchase the pin holding the blade into the handle fell out and was lost. I replaced it with a dowel from ace hardware. I chopped down about 100 sumac trees a bit smaller around then my wrist. It did eventually bend on some hardwood wich impressed me. I was able to bend it back and still cut small things with it.Overall im happy i purchased it and may get another as a cheap practice/beater sword. Also the edge was very sharp and held well but the tip was not perfect. All that being said this sword cost less then some useless wall hangers i have seen. Looks beautiful and can be used to cut.

Not very welled tempered
The sword is made of steel probably 1045 since it is the cheapest high carbon steel. The issue is that the sword is not well tempered so it is not springy. When making a cut on wet rolled paper I did not keep proper alignment and the sword bent. This problems are solved by straightening the sword back over the knee. In medieval times many swords were poorly tempered and got bent or broken of the two it much better a bent sword than a broken one.
