OpenSUSE 11.0 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Bible

Not Quite Ready for Primetime
For as thick, which alludes to a complete manual, that this book is, it is not as complete as it could be. It lacks a troubleshooting section; at least a section of the most likely problems the neophyte might run into with the possible solutions. The average person who picks this book up will probably be new to Linux distributions. Nevertheless he will be anxious to learn all that he can before diving into the OSS pool, so it would be very helpful if this book would make that one of its objectives. In this case, I wonder how useful the section on the "server" would be.

very useful book
I have bought " OpenSUSE 11.0 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Bible ",I have bought together with " SUSE Linux Toolbox: 1000+ Commands for openSUSE and SUSE Linux Enterprise " both complemented each other, the first one give a complete guide of configuration of network services to be implemented using SUSE.the second one is a concise and rapid consulting guide of commands that are so useful when your are customized to work with console enviroment. Both can be reference books to teach Linux

A lot of info!
This book has more than enough information for a person to become familiar with openSUSE. However, I don't think I can recommend this for "power use" as for most topics don't go into great detail.

Excellent book, everything I needed to know in one place
I am basically a Windows guy who only needs to interact with Linux for a day or two each month, so I am never going to become a Linux guru. Luckily this book gives me exactly what I need when I need it. Well written, well structured, easy to use.

worth the money
good price for a book finally. I use 11.4 because I do not like evolution 3.x with its M$ Exchange nonsense built in. Ill be storeing the repos for my own use for a long time.

Not impressed
If you are new to Linux then this book may be OK for you. If you wanted a detailed look under the hood of Suse 11.0 and Enterprise Server then forget it. Most of the content of this book is generic linux and *nix stuff which they could have cut and pasted from a hundred other much older books. This leaves insufficient room for the content you would expect based on the book title. If you want a "bible" for running an enterprise server based on Suse, this book is definitely a waste of your time and money. I flicked through it in ten minutes and put it aside feeling cheated. It's unlikely to ever help me do my job.The book should have been more honestly titled "Beginning Linux with a Suse flavour" and I would then not have bought it.ps. As a handbook for a linux newbie it is probably a good book, but the title misleadingly implies the book is something it isn't.
