Great book for those new to the game
I know a bit about cricket but needed a lot of help to set up a casual game among friends. This book made it easy to measure out and mark the critical areas of the field (i.e., the creases, wicket placement and height). It also presents the rules in an easy to read way. More advanced subject matter, such as game strategy, team selection, qualities of individual fields, captaining a team, umpiring, etc. are included for those who are more familiar with the game and want to hone their skills. There is even a neat chapter on history and famous rivalries. A great book, especially for beginners!

Finally I understand Cricket!
I'm an American dating a Brit who loves cricket. I enjoyed watching it but wasn't picking it up fast enough for my liking. This book is great. It's easy to read and explains things well. It's easy to bookmark stuff to reference back to as well. If you are trying to get the hang of Cricket this is the book you want!

Horribly Written and Outdated
I actually sent this book back it was so painful to read. And I never do this! I don't know why the author would include so much statistical information and detail that made the book obsolete less than a year after it was published - and this came out almost a decade ago. On top of that, the book acts like we are all British and know the meanings of slang and cultural references in the UK. We don't. It's really eye-rollingly bad and I recommend you look elsewhere if you want to learn about cricket.

Good book
Spends a lot of time on how you can get playing so if that floats your boat. But it helped me in one day get into the IPL and understand what was happening and how they would win and it was worth it for that reason alone.

Somewhat disappointing
I was assigned to write a backend for cricket, of which I knew nothing, so I bought this book to get some basic information. I found Part I, which explains the principles, to be the most useful. Part II is for those who want to become cricket players or coaches, but I doubt they would get choose this kind of book as a primary source for information.Parts III and IV describe the cricket scene as it was when the book was published, which means that a lot of the information is now obsolete. Not to mention that some information related to the game itself has become obsolete as well, for example the rules have changed.I have to subtract one more star because of poor editing and proofreading - the first typo appears on page 1, section "About This book", and there more typos and errors as the text continues. Furthermore, in the book there are numerous references to chapter 17 ("See chapter 17 for more info:") but there is no such chapter.
