Off the Chart Fun for Boomers and Beyond *UPDATE*
The media could not be loaded. If you are a Baby Boomer, chances are that at some point you were treated to a kid sized box of animal crackers. With just a bit of help from Mom, the box was magically transformed into a circus train car.The wheels popped out and you stuck a toothpick in to make them turn. A few years later there were perforations and a half circle of the wheel folded down. They didn't spin, but still fun.And then you would cut the ribbon on top to pull the box just like a real train car, with only the crumbs of tasty critters inside.Yes, I can remember all that, yet can't remember where my keys are.Typical Baby Boomer! While I'm certain the original incarnation did not contain fructose or the bevy of preservatives, the flour wasn't fortified back then, and companies did not have to be accountable to stockholders demanding a profit. What I'm saying is, no, they don't taste exactly as I remember, but what does? The little flying saucers with three specks of sugar inside that tasted like communion wafers. Pixie stix. Black licorice 'records'. The Good Humor ice cream bars from the truck with bells that were actually bells, as opposed to a blaring noise worthy of a blow horn. This current box of Barnums Animal Crackers might not exactly be MY childhood, but they are good enough that a new generation can someday say the same sorts of thing."Back in MY day, you could get animal crackers in a little box that looked like a circus car. No, not like a Toyota car, a TRAIN car. Well, putting animals in a train car was popular back then...no, I don't know where they pooped..."Anyway, the pack I received was within the expiration date by about a month or so, yet did not taste stale. Bland enough for small kids. Fun to use for decorating cupcakes and cakes. And fun to see the delight in a fellow Boomer's eyes when you present them with a Barnum's Animals Circus Box.UPDATE 8/14/2015: Sadly, yet another cost cutting change to the iconic box. My last two purchases of Barnum's Animal Crackers did not have the white ribbon on top to carry the box. In it's place, part of the top folds back to create a handle. Time marches on.

No nostalgia
I wanted them to come in the small boxes. They did not. Half the fun is the childhood box of animal crackers. Boo

Coming from the zoo
My grand babies love snacking in the car when coming from their zoo membership. It’s nice to have snacks that stimulate language & communication. I remember these cookies when I was a kid! The carrier packaging doubles as a lil vehicle toy for the children’s imagination. Sometimes the least expensive things are what kids love most, especially when edibles are involved.

Wish they still had animals in the circus.

Great crackers, but no key
Pretty much the same animal crackers you know from childhood. Only thing is that there is no key on the box to tell you what all the animals are. They show just a few of them. The rest you have to guess. And the definition of the crackers has gotten pretty poor, so most of the time you can't tell what is what. Not like the other brands of animal crackers, where you don't need a key, because the crackers are so well printed that you know what every one is supposed to be.

For the kid in you
Barnum animal crackers are always a winner. Reminds me of childhood and a fun snack anytime for an adult too. Same taste as 40 years ago.
