Prefer US Art Supply's Black Paper Pad
I bought the Derwent Black Book (200 gsm and 40 sheets) at $23.08. It was received with a warped back cover. I contacted Amazon and they sent me a replacement. It too was received with a warped back cover. This causes the pages to not be able to lay flat. For the price of the Derwent Black Book, I'm pretty disappointed with this design flaw. I elected to keep the 2nd one.Shortly later another art manufacture, US Art Supply, asked me to review their Black Paper Pad ASIN B01BLRZZLO. (Costs $7.96) Their pad is 140 gsm and 30 sheets for significantly less money than the Derwent. US Art Supply's cover and backing lay flat and this prevents the pages from curling. The Derwent is large square sheets and neither brands have perforated pages. The differences in the paper's weight are negligible with no significant advantage to Derwent's heavier paper. Both have sturdy, strong, thick paper. Both are perfect for mixed mediums and great for heavy handed people like me.I honestly wish I'd known about US Art Supply's Black Paper Pad before I bought myself the Derwent. I definitely prefer US Art Supply's price point but the cover and backing on the Derwent are inferior to US Art Supply's. While the Derwent is a hardcover and the US Art supply has a soft cover, the US Art Supply doesn't curl my pages and that means more to me than the higher quality of the Derwent cover. Moving forward I will use US Art Supply's Black Paper Pad from my Black Paper needs.

great sketchbook
the only think that i would wish for is the paper to be a little thicker as i like to use watercolors in my sketchbooks. But I really like the size and the contrast when I use metallic paints in it.

Great for colored pencils!
I have been using this Derwent black paper for my illustrations for a couple years and they have worked very well for me. Itโs really good for chiaroscuro drawings. The paper itself is not a dark black, but upon finishing my pieces I spray them with a matte finish and it brings out the blackness of the paper as well as the colored pencil. This is an honest review and have had to pay for every one of these, but well worth it. Also, the subject in my portrait drawing here is my friend Chad Ridgely. Check his movies out!

Paper quality is great.
I only have two problems with this paper pad. The spiral binding means it shifts around and smudges your work, and itโs just to unwieldy and large.Paper quality is great however.

The color pencils I tested shows up very nicely. I like the weight of the paper and seems it can accept some water. I made some swatches with water color pencil and just added a very little water with a water brush and when it dried the color did show up.

When I received this, the book was dinged up and almost bent. It still works, but now I have to fix the scuffing before I can turn it in for a school project

Good product but came with tears in the cover.
When the product arrived there were two tears on the back cover. This is a christmas gift, so I'm not happy about that. But overall it is a good find.

Used this for everyone in my office to sign as a going away gift for a boss (with silver/bronze/gold sharpies) the pages are nice and sturdy the cover however is not that durable. Also, when I peeled the sticker off the front it tore it in two spots.

Cheap, poor quality sketchbook
Sketchbook arrived promptly.Once I packed I then peeled the yellow label off the cover which firstly did not come off easily and secondly pulled the cover material off the board underneath leaving the cover all bubbled up. Seeing as this was going to be used as a display book this is pretty poor quality. Iโll pay more next time and order from a quality art brand such as Windsor and Newton.

Good quality for portfolio work
Have bought a different size but same brand before and was pleased with that so expected this to be good quality and it is. Has been used by my daughter to prepare her art portfolio for applying for an art course at college and it's perfect for that. Fits A4 pages in but looks better if a little is trimmed from the top/bottom to mount it. Used white pens to annotate and it looks really good.

Note to manufacturer.
A very usefully sized, sturdy sketchbook for displaying my textile design development course samples. However, the large yellow sticky label on the front cover was very difficult to remove and has left paper fibres and spoilt the cover. I have tried to remove the residue with nail varnish remover, but it is not ideal. Note to manufacturer: use non-stick label.

Strong and Stable (in a good way!)
Solid outer board, nice big rings easy to turn page. Smooth paper and reasonable weight. Excellent value for money.
