Game Development with Unity

This book does a decent job about covering the basic's with Unity 3d. I docked it a star not because there was a problem with it but because Unity has upgraded and moved on now. The GUI stuff will be a bit outdated.

I'm not that far into the book. But I like it. Right now I'm putting trees into a terrain. When I downloaded the scene from the book's website this didn't work because their version of unity is too old. But if you start a fresh scene it works. There are free trees in an Unity Asset Package. This is good stuff. I like the book.

A nice reference book but quickly outdated. Most of the material can be found online.

Some lines of code didn't work. Alright book by the side if you are new to the program interface itself.

Wonderful book to learn from.

This book is for Unity 4.x. It does say in the preface the book may be out of date by the time it's published because of Unity 5.x being released soon.Although the companion files on the website are for this book, the instructions in the book do not match the folder structure of the downloaded companion files. The book also does not say how to import projects or files.. just says to do so.I'm currently on page 85 - There have been more than on reference "Earlier in this chapter when you imported the project..." no... just ..no.. it never said to do this.. it never said where to find the files, how to import them, or which filenames even (yes I double/triple checked).Le't me say this - It's a shame because I can tell the authors put some care into making this.. I'm really under the impression this is horribly bad editing by the publisher.Maybe AFTER I know what I'm doing with Unity I might go back over this book when I can SEE what's not right and be able to pick out random bits of things I didn't know previously.. But yes... One Star.

This is an excellent text book. It follows a simple but fun 3D game and provides all the files and other details you need to work through the project.

I only bought this to further a course I'm doing at the moment in games design, the tutorials are very well put together and easy to follow, I just don't have a Windows PC or a Mac to run Unity myself.

Was what i was expecting, good read.
