The Sea Journal: Seafarers' Sketchbooks

I bought this book originally to inspire me on a sea/beach theme in a textile course I was doing.It is a beautifully illustrated and written book full of history and snippets from all manner of places. I am sure I will be reading and dipping into it for a long time to come.

Beautiful illustrations and a host of interesting and well-organised chapters make this a gem of a book if you like the sea, ships and detailed stories of exploration. At just over 300 pages, this is the type of book you can dip into over and over again.

I bought this for my sailing and history-mad husband. He’s very taken with it - it arrived in very good time and is a handsome book, packed with information and illustration.

The contents are beautiful but the spine cover on my edition has been attached upside down so it looks rather odd. However it's a fascinating read, well worth purchasing

Another beautifully produced book by Thames & Hudson. Lovely thick paper and gorgeous high resolution reproductions of antique journals and sketches, from a wealth of sources.

I loved poring over the sketchbooks and reading about the amazing sea journeys. Awesome primary sources.
